Netflix has fast become one of the best places around to find romcom films, like Your Place or Mine, Happiness For Beginners and A Tourist’s Guide To Love. Their latest to add to your watchlist is Love at First Sight, a new romance that sees a girl late for her plane (Haley Lu Richardson) fall for Oliver (Ben Hardy) at the airport. Here’s everything you need to know…

What is Love at First Sight About?

Our plucky protagonist is Hadley, an American literature nut who also dabbles in poetry. Played by White Lotus star Haley Lu Richardson, she’s heading to the UK for her father’s remarriage, and is behind schedule. Unfortunately, she misses her plane, and can only wait around for the next (more expensive) NYC to London flight.

After pondering her options, she decides to risk falling into credit card debt and books her seat. It’s while she’s waiting for her new plane that she first lays eyes on Oliver (played by Bohemian Rhapsody’s Ben Hardy), a British student studying statistics and waiting for the same plane. The pair notice each other and strike up a conversation, and it’s clear there’s a spark between them.

What follows is a will they, won’t they series of events, as they board the same plane, but in different rows. A fault with Oliver’s seat means he’s switched around to end up next to Hadley, and the pair spend the flight together, only to be separated once in London. Hadley noted down Oliver’s number on her phone, but she accidentally drops and breaks it. With both keen to see each other again but not quite sure how to find one another, the two hold out hope that they’ll be reunited, despite the odds. Hadley decides to set out into London to try to find Oliver, but it won’t be easy.

What else do we know?

Love at First Sight is based on a book with the slightly more verbose title, The Statistical Odds of Love at First Sight, by Jennifer E. Smith. It’s being adapted to screen by Vanessa Caswill, who directed BBC miniseries Gold Digger, Little Women and Thirteen.

The rest of the cast, meanwhile, includes Dexter Fletcher (Ghosted), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) and Tom Taylor (Doctor Foster).

It’s also narrated by Jameela Jamil (How to Build a Girl).

When will it be released?

The film’s trailer, which you can watch below, debuted recently, and you’ll be able to see if Hadley reunites with Oliver when Love at First Sight releases on 15th September.
