Who doesn’t love a good, twisting thriller? Luckily, TV’s full of them this year: from HBO’s Elizabeth Olsen starring Love and Death to Season 4 of Netflix’s You, streaming continues to be the best place to get your fix of thrills and spills. Paramount+, which is also working on a new adaptation of Fatal Attraction, is also bringing No Escape to its streaming service later in 2023. It’s based on the novel of the same name by Lucy Clarke, and sees a journey into paradise gone wrong.

No Escape, also known by the perhaps more ambiguous title The Blue, was published in 2015 as Clarke’s third novel, becoming a bestseller. After departing the UK, best friends Kitty and Lana end up in the Philippines (changed to Thailand in the new series), where they come across an idyllic yacht, The Blue. It’s crew are drifters who seem content on endlessly sailing the oceans, and everything seems set for the two to join a long and luxurious summer in paradise. But of course, things are too good to be true, and the perfect escape begins to become anything but. The crew of The Blue might be as committed to the blue oceans and endless sun as they are, but they seem to be harbouring secrets. The novel also jumps forward in time to eight months later, with Lana now in New Zealand and her relationship with Kitty apparently broken down. But what exactly happened?

As Lana seems to want to move on with her life despite her regrets about Kitty, local police forces open up an investigation on The Blue and its crew, with Australian detectives joining them. As they gather more and more evidence, things begin to heat up for Lana, and she may never be able to go back. No Escape’s thrillingly enigmatic premise certainly lends itself to a juicy TV adaptation, which is why the show can’t come soon enough. Starring as Lana and Kitty are Abigail Lawrie (Tin Star, The Casual Vacancy) and Rhianne Barreto (The Outlaws), and they’re joined by Sean Keenan, who you may have seen in the award-winning The Power of the Dog, Colette Dalal Tchantcho (Dangerous Liaisons) and Jay Ryan (It Chapter Two). Australian stars Susie Porter and Josh McConville are onboard the cast as the two detectives taking a closer look into The Blue and its voyage.

No Escape doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but given the amount of info and official pics, it seems safe to say it’ll arrive some time later this year on Paramount+. Stay tuned for more info and a trailer.
