You may be on London’s busiest streets, but Selfridges on Oxford Street is preparing to transport you to high in the Tuscan hills with the launch of their new rooftop restaurant Il Tetto.
Il Tetto opens today and will provide all-day dining in the style of a traditional trattoria. Under the expert direction of Head Chef Luca Terraneo, who has come over from L’Anima, the menu will be made up of authentic Italian dishes, using well sourced, seasonal ingredients from across Italy. Terraneo was previously at Franco’s and has worked with the critically acclaimed Francesco Mazzei for over 10 years. He will be supported by world class team including Matthew Hayes, formerly Executive Pastry Chef for Corbin & King and now Executive Pastry Chef for the Des McDonald Group, which includes Il Tetto, and who will be in charge of the pastry section and afternoon tea.
Open from 11am, the brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner menus will be available 7 days a week. Start off with cicchetti, Venetian style ‘small plates’ including Baccala mantecato all veneziana (whipped air-dried cod, grilled polenta, charred roast pepper sauce), starters include insalata invernale (radicchio, white chicory, heritage beetroot, pear, zola dressing) while pasta dishes include tortelli alla zucca mantovana (pumpkin hand filled parcels, robiola fondue and crispy sage).
The food on the plate will echo the surroundings, with Il Tetto painted in accents of Tuscan reds, burnt orange and olive green throughout and a liberal scattering of terracotta pots filled with herbs will complete the effect. The intention is to bring rural Italy to Oxford Street. The only reminder that you’re in London will be the stunning London skyline which will dominate the fantastic terrace.
This is all the brainchild of renowned restauranteur Des McDonald and the year long residency will give shoppers and Londoners the chance to escape to rural Italy without setting foot in an airport.
