Paddington 3: Everything We Know About The New Film
The highly popular Paddington films are back for another instalment: Paddington In Peru, the third in a trilogy, is set to release later this year, and the first details have been revealed.
As you might guess from the title, the film takes the red hatted bear (played by Ben Wishaw) out of London and over to Peru, in search of his aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) who he last saw several years ago before he emigrated. However, finding her won’t be as easy as he’d hope, as he’s joined by Henry (Hugh Bonneville, recently seen in Apple’s Dick Turpin and Mary Brown (The New Look’s Emily Mortimer).
What is Paddington Lost In Peru about?
Anyone who knows anything about Paddington knows that he comes from Darkest Peru, before travelling to the UK and ending up at the station that gave him his name. We saw a glimpse of this fictional part of Peru previously in the previous films, but this new sequel sees him head back to visit his aunt Lucy. She’s been living in the Home for Retired Bears, but after Paddington eventually arrives, he discovers that Aunt Lucy isn’t at the home and has apparently headed out on a scientific mission- though she’s now gone missing. Heading the home for bears is a nun fond of playing the guitar, played by Olivia Colman, a new addition to the series- and we’ll also meet a new character, a boat captain in Peru played by Antonio Banderas.
The first two films in the franchise, its safe to say, have transcended the usual kids films and become genuinely popular with audiences of all ages, with both having received glowing critical reviews. Expectations then are quite lofty for Paddington In Peru, with the film’s director, Dougal Wilson, saying that the third film will explore more of Paddington’s origins, where he came from, his family back story and how he was rescued and got to London. The Brown family will be in tow of course as he travels to Peru, with Madeline Harris, Samuel Joslin and Julie Walters returning as Judy, Jonathan and Mrs Bird respectively. Sally Hawkins, who played Mrs Brown in the first two films, is not returning, and has been replaced by Mortimer.
Is there a trailer, and when does it release?
