Like florals in spring, pastels in summer are a bit of a no-brainer, so slipping into saccharine shades come the warm months just feels right. Plenty of the big-name brands have showcased pastel shades on the runway for SS24, from Palm Violets-inspired dresses at Maison Margiela to lemony yellows at Loewe and a whole sweet store of hues at London-based designer, Molly Goddard. Pastels have also been a huge hit on the red carpet, with many pretty floral looks taking centre stage at this month’s Met Gala – we’re looking at your Sidney Sweeney in layers and layers of pastel blue Miu Miu. As well as the Oscars where Emma Stone collected her award wearing mint choc chip-hued Louis Vuitton. Dreamy.

On that note, this colour palette plays particularly well with overly feminine silhouettes, romantic details and opulent fabrics. Case in point, Molly Goddard’s powdery blue Mertyl midi dress. Inspired by Victorian christening gowns, it’s made of tiers of frothy tulle and trimmed with delicate ruffles along the neckline and skirt. It’s a punchy dress and certainly not for any wallflowers but it’s a one-way ticket to best dressed at all your summer events.

For something more affordable but still special, Rixo’s polka dot Valerie silk dress in pastel peach is the perfect look for a summer wedding or race day and has a sweet vintage tea dress feel to it. Style it up with raffia accessories for a more modern take.

Sleeper’s nightwear-inspired pieces still rein supreme for the summer months when you’re after something billowy and cool. Their Cancan linen dress now comes in a gelato-inspired pistachio hue – the perfect dress for picnics in the park, destination weddings and summer drinks parties.

If tailoring is more your thing, look to The Frankie Shop for a contemporary take on pastels. We love their structured Emra blazer in a lemon sherbet yellow, paired simply with a plain white tee and chunky gold hoops. And Mango’s pistachio suit brings a freshness to summer workwear, whether worn as a statement two-piece or alone with a simple linen shirt.

Mint Velvet’s summer collection is one to check out if you’re after joyful, feminie colours. This lilac co-ord with statement maxi skirt and cropped, puff sleeve top is giving Bridgerton vibes for the modern girl.

It’s no secret we love Free People’s quilted Chloe jacket in all its iterations – from inky denim to gothic black – but it’s peachy pastel spring version with vibrant floral print is ticking all the right boxes for the new season.
