A Day’s March

BEST FOR: Scandi cool cuts that no one else will have.

If you subscribe to a clean, Scandi capsule wardrobe, you need to bookmark this brand. Launched in Sweden in 2014 by Marcus Gårdö, Pelle Lundquist, and Stefan Pagréus, A Day’s March focuses on meaningful clothes you’ll want to wear every day. Think perfect-cut tees, wear-anywhere shackets, great knitwear and, of course, denim.

The cuts are simple – not too wide, not too skinny – and come in wearable washes that will act as the foundation to pretty much any low-key denim look.

Nudie

BEST FOR: A sustainable and ethical option.

Walk around Hackney and you’ll see a plethora of hipsters in this Swedish denim brand, and with good reason, as these are some of the best jean cuts we’ve come across.

The brand is dedicated to working as sustainably as possible, with pieces made 100% organic, fairtrade, and recycled cotton. They ensure that no contaminated water reaches natural water systems and that their ecosystems reduce overall water waste wherever possible. They also work closely with their suppliers to ensure they have paid their share of living wages and that organisations like the Fair Wear Foundation verify that these payments reach the workers.

Calvin Klein

BEST FOR: The OG of ’90s shapes and vintage washes.

We haven’t looked a Calvin Klein jean in a while but with their signature ’90s aesthetic and relaxed cuts, they have never felt more relevant.

If you subscribe to skinny jeans being well and truly in the bin, this American behemoth is for you. Their ’90s Loose style is giving American boyband vibes, whilst the slimmer Dad jeans feel a bit cooler – we’re thinking a ’90s Johnny Depp or Jared Leto circa My So-Called Life era.

A. P. C.

BEST FOR: Wardrobe staples that will form the foundations of all your off-duty looks.

A.P.C. is the Parisian brand to invest in if you wear denim on repeat. Their cuts are cool and quality unrivalled but will stand the test of time – nothing too of the moment here.

We love their Martin Tapered style paired with a Britpop-esque parka and turned up over a good winter boot. For something a little more relaxed, go for the more daring Jean Marin in cool icy white, paired with a caramel knit and classic heritage coat

Acne Studios

BEST FOR: Slouchy laid back cuts and super soft denim.

This brand needs little introduction, they are the masters of cult menswear pieces, from their iconic aviator jackets to their oversized mohair scarves.

The mood plays into the style of their birthplace perfectly – the brand was founded in Sweden in 1997 and has been a pioneer of that nonchalant but fun Scandi style.

This season, their baggy styles are standouts, from love-worn light washes to powder pink.

OrSlow

BEST FOR: Japanese worker style cuts and devil-in-the-detail design.

Japanse-designed OrSlow denim is a masterclass in technical jeans. The name refers to the label’s ethos of crafting clothes with consideration and an antidote to fast fashion if you will.

And the devil is the detail, from perfectly torn rips to distressed washes and luxe metalware.

The 105 Straigh-Leg is the perfect pair if you’re after something that sits in the sweet spot of skinny and this season’s favourite baggy style.

AGOLDE

BEST FOR: A grown-up approach to relaxed skater-style cool.

We have long loved AGOLDE’s women’s jeans, but this year, the LA-based brand has added a menswear line, bringing their signature styles to the guys too.

This season’s heroes are inspired by the classics, from knee-ripped denim to cropped retro styles. But our favourite has to be the mid-wash, Fusion Straight-Leg with frayed edges – perfect California cool paired with an embroidered short-sleeve shirt or cool men’s cardi.

Our Legacy

BEST FOR: The perfect mix of off-duty cool-meets-smart technical fabric.

Swedish brand, Our Legacy, isn’t exclusively a denim brand but damn, they do it well. Their washes are so good, from the perfect faded grey to a light wash that looks like it’s been loved and worn for decades.

The Vast Straight-Leg are our favourite right now, with their Italian-crafted, bleached denim and loose fit, they are the perfect pairing with this season’s grungy plaid shirt and white tee combo.

Denim with near-perfect washes, from the relaxed faded grey to the mid shade that looks like it’s been loved and worn for decades.
