There’s no denying the sartorial wonder of a man in quality knitwear. Relaxed, yet both timeless and chic, men’s cardigans are having their moment…

In recent years, there’s been a real push to support small businesses and time-honoured skills. And rightly so. There’s a wealth of craftspeople across the globe creating stunning pieces and this should be celebrated. For me, knitwear is one of the most wearable, universal crafts that we can all embrace and indulge in. The sweater, cardigan, scarf… whatever your go-to knit is, when it’s been hand-crafted that piece feels superior and, more often than not, looks it, too. Plus, when it comes to men’s fashion, knitwear can look impeccable, especially when styled with other hard-wearing luxury items. From the more rugged jeans and lace-up boots combo, to the refined Italian-style worn with exquisite tailoring, there is versatility in this humble knit.

Welsh-born label Toast offers some beautiful men’s cardigans which have been produced in collaboration with artisans, mills and weavers from around the world. Peregrine, another brand to follow a more sustainable approach, works closely with British farmers and weavers to create high-quality clothing. Meanwhile, Brooklyn-based Corridor is actually made up of a collective of artists designing everything in-house. Working with selectively-partnered, ethical and environmentally sustainable workshops, they’ve created a collection rich in colour, pattern and style.

Other labels to note have got to be Kestin, Universal Works and Wax London. I promise you, the temptation awaits. Obviously, you also have the luxe labels to consider with Burberry serving up some particularly lust-worthy knitwear. On the opposite end of the budget scale, you can, of course, rely on our great high street. This season, Arket’s cardigans are on the money.
