One Day Star Leo Woodall Stars In New Thriller, Prime Target

22nd January 2025 | By Rufus Punt

One of Netflix’s biggest hits earlier this year was One Day, the romantic drama that topped the most-watched charts on the streamer when it was released. One of its stars, Leo Woodall (who played Dexter), is now set to take on a very different role in Prime Target, a new thriller series releasing on Apple TV+ this week.

Woodall plays a highly gifted and smart maths postgrad who believes his work could allow him to change the world with a breakthrough discovery- but must act fast before he’s thwarted. Here’s all you need to know:

What is Prime Target about?

The series, executive produced by Ridley Scott (whose new film Gladiator II recently made headlines), focuses on Edward Brook (Woodall). Edward is highly smart, and a gifted mathematician who’s been studying for his postgrad. His big area of interest is in prime numbers, and he believes he’s on the verge of a breakthrough: finding a pattern in these numbers which, if he uses them right, will allow him to “hold the key to every computer in the world.” It certainly seems like a pretty out-there concept, but Edward knows that he could change the future and wield a lot of power while doing so.

Meanwhile, an NSA agent, Taylah (Euphoria’s Quintessa Swindell), who’s been watching his work and activity with interest, gets into contact with him as they discover that there are plots afoot from an unseen enemy to stop his creation before he can crack it. The pair agree to work together to find out who exactly is out there looking to stop him and will uncover this growing conspiracy that Edward is entangled with. Could the enemy be seeking to use the prime numbers technology for malicious purposes? And how trustworthy is Edward himself, given the power he could potentially harness? We’ll have to wait for the show itself for these questions and more to be answered.

Who else stars, and is there a release date?

Alongside the leads of Woodall and Swindell, Prime Target will also star David Morrissey (The Walking Dead),  Stephen Rea (Greta), Martha Plimpton (Mass), Sidse Babett Knudsen (Westworld) and Harry Lloyd (Wolf Hall). The show arrives on Apple TV+ today [22nd January, 2025].
