30 Statement Sweaters To Keep Warm And Look Cool
From stripes and checks to cable knits and fairisle, the chunky jumper is having its moment. Obviously because the temperatures are dropping, but also because it is the current must-have among the fashion set.
We’ve all seen, and possibly used, #sweaterweather and this year we are excited by its excessive use. Very excited. Gone are the days of dowdy, dull knitwear; we can finally inject a little cool into our favourite cosy numbers thanks to big name designers. Molly Goddard celebrated the homespun look, but styled that laid-back farm girl vibe with metallics and hugely glamorous ruffled skirts. Isabel Marant embraced the “naively sexy” feel in oversized knits with leathers and knee high boots. We are so on board.
This season knitwear is also joyful. Yes there are the faithful cream, grey and beige classics, but, my goodness, what an explosion of colour there is. Call it dopamine dressing if you will, however you know you’re on to smart dressing when even the most minimalist label, The Row, injects acid brights into its collection. Stine Goya upped the cheeriness with bold checkerboard knits and Shrimps was literally the cherry on top (see below).
The beauty of the sweater is that it’s timeless – a wardrobe winner to be worn season after season. For the perfect AW22 update, make it slouchy and comfortable (a given), and wear with either your slinky satin slip skirt and heavy-soled boots or cargo pants and killer boots a la Isabel Marant. Whether you go casual or glam, we guarantee we’ve found your dream jumper…
The Knotty Ones Barbora knit, available at KHOEO, was inspired by its namesake: Barbora Radvilaitė, Grand Duchess of Lithuania.
Nothing is more perfect than comfy knitwear with your favourite party dress.
