Even as someone who has spent their entire career in fashion, I still only buy designer pieces on sale. While the summer sales have been running for a few weeks, right now is the best time to nab serious deals.

 I always start by checking my favourite brands directly, but multi-brand sites like NET-A-PORTER or Mytheresa often offer better discounts, so it’s worth filtering by your favourite designers there too.

Sale season is also the perfect opportunity to invest in classic, elevated foundation pieces. My own wardrobe may be far from minimalist, but it still relies on timeless staples to pull everything together. Use this time to search for sharp tailoring, a classic summer dress, or winter-ready boots – focusing on exceptional fit and beautiful fabrics rather than recent trends. A golden rule I always follow: never buy anything on sale that you wouldn’t consider at full price, whether it’s designer, vintage, or high street. If it’s going to take up space in your wardrobe, you need to truly love it.

Don’t overlook cold-weather pieces either – even as summer draws to a close – as there are plenty to be had even at this time of year.
