The Couple Next Door Is Channel 4’s Dark New Thriller

Looking for a thriller series to sink your teeth into? Not only is the acclaimed The Tourist coming back to our screens for series two, but there’s a new show to add to our watchlist.
Introducing The Couple Next Door, the new dark thriller from Channel 4 and Starz. Starring The Outlaws’ Eleanor Tomlinson and Alfred Enoch (Foundation), the show centres on a couple moving into a rich neighbourhood which seems like the dream place to settle down in. However, they find themselves dealing with status anxiety and their own private temptations. Out today [Monday 27th November], here’s what you need to know…
What is The Couple Next Door about?
Evie (Tomlinson) and Pete (Enoch) are two happy, successful people, who move into a new location in an affluent suburb. They’re eager to settle down, as well as meet new friends. However, they’ve barely started unpacking their moving boxes when they start to get the feeling that their dream neighbourhood doesn’t seem to be quite what they imagined. Sure it looks nice on the surface, but underneath there’s an unpleasant undercurrent.
Others living around them seem to be constantly spying through windows. Both Pete and Evie feel as though they have to keep up appearances to maintain their status on an increasingly vicious social ladder.
What else do we know?
The couple next door however offers respite: macho traffic officer Danny (played by Outlander’s Sam Heughan ) and yoga instructor wife Becka (Pennyworth’s Jessica De Gouw ) are friendly and open to the newly moved in couple.
Channel 4 promises that the show is an “addictive” and “emotional” roller coaster, as the two couples become ever closer- resulting in a fateful night in which they become sexually entangled, permanently changing their lives. As the show’s synopsis says, “We never know what goes on behind closed doors.”
Who else is involved?
Outside the four main cast members, expect to see Hugh Dennis , Kate Robbins, Deirdre Mullins and Janine Duvitski on screen. The series is written by David Allison, who wrote for Martin Freeman ‘s comedy Boy Meets Girl and supernatural drama, Bedlam.
Is there a release date?
The series is set to arrive on Starz in the US, and Channel 4 in the UK from Monday 27th November.
