From Disney+’s Extraordinary to Apple TV+’s Platoniccomedy fans are spoilt for choice at the moment. Another show to keep on your radar is The Outlaws, which is set to return to screens for Series 3 in the near future. Stephen Merchant’s acclaimed comedy has gathered a cult following for its hilarious band of strangers serving a Community Payback service- and we’re definitely happy to see it back for more mischief.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Outlaws season 3

Merchant already cemented himself as a British comedy legend for co-creating The Office and Extras, and The Outlaws quickly became a favourite when it debuted back in 2021. Seven strangers, our titular “outlaws”, get to know each other as they work doing community payback in Bristol. Main characters like Merchant’s socially awkward Greg Dillard, young and aspirational Rani (Rhianne Barreto), businessman John (Darren Boyd) and security guard Ben (Gamba Cole) are all set to return, along with Lady Gabriella (Eleanor Tomlinson), Myrna (Clare Perkins) and Diane (Jesscia Gunning). The big question mark though is whether conman Frank Sheldon, played by superstar Christopher Walken, will be back as well- or perhaps in a smaller guest role.

The Office and Extras might have only each been two series, but Merchant is breaking that streak for The Outlaws: “we found there was so much meat still on the bone and still so much to do with the characters…I’m actually quite excited by the idea of doing a Series 3” he told the Radio Times.

The end of Series 2 ended with quite a dramatic shift for some of our main characters- with Greg quitting his job, Ben and Rani parting ways and Frank leaving the home of his daughter Margaret. These will all play important parts in Series 3, as potentially will the fallout of notorious drug dealer The Dean finally being sent to prison. Of course, it’s a comedy, so expect plenty of jokes and cringe inducing moments along the way.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a release date for Series 3 of The Outlaws, but the project has been in development for over a year, so it shouldn’t be long before we’re back in Bristol with more hijinks. Filming will be underway soon, and the show will come to both BBC One and Amazon Prime outside of the UK.
