Apple TV has got some of the biggest names in Hollywood in its shows this year: Jennifer Garner in The Last Thing He Told Me, Eva Green in Liaisons, the star-studded cast of Extrapolations and now both Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried in the new thriller The Crowded Room. Set to debut in the summer, it’s a miniseries created by Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman and focuses on a man (Holland) who’s interrogated in a series of interviews by an intrigued interrogator (Seyfried).

Here’s everything we know about The Crowded Room

It’s Holland’s first proper role in a TV series since he appeared in Wolf Hall back in 2015, and he also serves as an executive producer. He plays Danny Sullivan, who is arrested for being involved in a shooting in New York City in 1979. Seyfried, who played Elizabeth Holmes to acclaim in The Dropout last year portrays the interviewer following his arrest, Rya Goodwin. Rya is curious and intrigued by the man she’s charged with interrogating, and it’s their interviews that tell the story. As their conversations progress, Danny’s life story and how he got to where he is now unfold, and the two of them slowly begin to discover a life-altering revelation of why he is who he is.

 

Creator Akiva Goldsman won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 2001’s A Beautiful Mind, and also worked on Cinderella Man and Star Trek. The Crowded Room takes inspiration from the 1981 non-fiction novel The Minds of Billy Milligan. The ten part series meanwhile also stars Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Will Chase (Dopesick), Sasha Lane (Loki) and guest stars Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) and Jason Isaacs (The Death of Stalin). Other details about the series are being kept fairly under wraps, and there’s no official trailer yet- but Apple has released a few first-look images that show off some of the late 70s aesthetic.

 

There’s also an image of what looks like a young version of Holland’s character and his mother, suggesting that the series will delve into Danny’s past through flashbacks as he and Rya probe his life story. Like other Apple originals, the first three episodes of the limited series will air together on 9th June, with the remaining seven following in the coming weeks.
