The Devil Wears Prada is getting a sequel nearly 20 years after the original. It’s currently in the works over at Disney, which now owns the rights, and will star all the original’s favourites, including Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway as they reprise their roles of Miranda Priestly, the iconic fashion editor, and her assistant. Andy Sachs.

Emily Blunt will also make a comeback as Emily Charlton, and both screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna and director David Frankel are in discussions to return, too. Here’s what to know.

What does the new trailer reveal?

As speculation continues to grow around the sequel, with its release date looming closer, the new trailer has given audiences a further look into what they can expect. Set to the musical backdrop of Madonna’s Vogue, the teaser offers us some brand new iconic Miranda Priestly one-liners, which include her addressing Andy, saying, “Wait, wait. I hope that’s not what you’re wearing tonight.”

It also cuts to clips of Stanley Tucci, Simone Ashley and Emily Blunt, who are all set to feature. The trailer concludes by urging viewers to get their tickets, which are now on sale ahead of its May 1st release date.

What do we know so far about The Devil Wears Prada sequel?

With the likes of Beetlejuce,  Twisters and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, long-awaited sequels to old films have been everywhere recently. The Devil Wears Prada hit screens back in 2006, and quickly became a hit and a cultural reference point for the fashion world with its depiction of working at a fashion magazine (specifically Vogue under Anna Wintour). “Everybody wants to be us”, says Miranda Priestly at one point in the film, and TDWP certainly made an impact- but a sequel seemed unlikely, due to the cast having moved on. But now, The Devil Wears Prada 2, or whatever it’ll be called, is indeed in development. Streep is the headline name, but Blunt and Hathaway are also set to be returning to the characters that helped catapult them to stardom.

Lauren Weisberger, author of the novel Prada is based on, later wrote a sequel called Revenge Wears Prada, but it’s unknown whether this new film is an adaptation or something new entirely. I can hear you asking, “Aren’t you forgetting someone?”- Andrea “Andy” Sachs, of course, was the main character of the first film, and while her return was up in the air for some time, Hathaway’s feature in the latest trailers more than confirms her reprisal of the iconic role. Other actors set to step back into their beloved roles include Stanley Tucci, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman.

Fans can also expect to see some new faces on their screens in May, with Kenneth Branagh and Patrick Brammall lined up to play Streep and Hathaway’s love interests. Meanwhile, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley, Lady Gaga, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux and B.J. Novak will all be joining as additional cast members.

What do we know about the story?

While things are still under wraps, there’s some early info on where the new Prada will take us: Miranda Priestly is still in the fashion biz, but in the time since the original, traditional print magazines and the way of doing things have declined. She’s not quite ready to hang up her coat and retire, and Emily Charlton has now become an exec at a prestigious luxury group, with access to advertising dollars that Miranda could really do with. So, the two characters are on course to cross paths again.

Is there a release date?

‌The sequel is set to release on May 1, 2026, so it looks like there’s plenty of time to reminisce, rewatch the original (a millionth time) and wait for more updates…
