Reboots and revivals are having a serious moment. With our nostalgic favourites Devil Wears Prada, Freaky Friday, and Bend it like Beckham all getting recently revamped, it is only right that The Holiday sees new light as well. The beloved 2006 festive rom-com is being reimagined as a brand-new TV series for Apple TV+.

What is The Holiday about?

The original film, directed by Nancy Meyers, starred Kate Winslet as Iris and Cameron Diaz as Amanda; two women from opposite sides of the Atlantic who swap homes to escape their messy love lives. While abroad, unexpected love seems to heal all wounds. In Surrey, Amanda falls for Graham, played by Jude Law and in Los Angeles, Iris finds her match in Miles, played by Jack Black.

The Holiday movie was instantly a cult-classic, grossing more than £200 million global box office and remains to be a Christmas season go-to. The new series promises to keep the spirit of the original while introducing a new cast. The TV series will be developed by comedian and actor Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) alongside writer and executive producer Krissie Ducker. Left Bank Pictures, a multi-award-winning independent production company, most known for The Crown, is on board to produce.

Is there a release date?

With all of its rumours and murmurings, there is still much we don’t know. The news was originally reported by Deadline and as far as we know, the cast has yet to be revealed. A definite release date has also not been announced, though 2026 is looking likely. Plenty of time to cosy up and revisit the original cult-classic.
