Every so often, a trend emerges that makes me raise an eyebrow. This season, it’s tinted fashion sunglasses. While they’re perched stylishly on the nose of every fashion-forward influencer on my Instagram feed (looking undeniably chic, might I add), I find myself caught between curiosity and hesitation when it comes to adopting the trend myself.

These frames occupy that intriguing middle ground: not dark enough to shield from harsh sunlight, yet not clear enough to serve as everyday eyewear. In other words, this wave of sunnies seems to exist purely as a fashion statement. ‘All style, no substance’ as the saying goes, but there’s no shade here – literally or otherwise.

Despite my inability to pull off this edgier trend, I can’t help but be impressed when someone else manages to do just that. It’s akin to my admiration for those who make capri pants look cool or momentarily convince me to consider donning a bright balaclava. I might not wear tinted sunglasses, but I have to respect them.

Perhaps that’s the secret sauce of accessories like this: they dare us to see fashion differently. While they’re clearly not everyone’s thing (mine included), they inject some much-needed playfulness into the fashion landscape – a reminder that sometimes style is less about practicality and more about having fun.
