Everything We Know About Lena Dunham’s New Comedy Too Much

Girls creator Lena Dunham is returning to TV next month with Too Much, her new romcom about the realities of dating and breakups. It stars Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) and Megan Statler (Hacks) as two people from very different backgrounds who meet each other in London, and soon fall for each other- even if it’s messy. It’s set to arrive on Netflix on 10th July- here’s all you need to know:
What is Too Much about?
Like Girls and much of her other work, Too Much is partly based on writer Dunham’s real-life experiences, having moved to London and having also found love. Jessica (Statler) is a New Yorker who’s headstrong and a true workaholic, and is left reeling after a painful breakup. Seeking to get away and move on in her life, she decides to move across the Atlantic and work in London instead, though she finds the ideas of the city she has in her head don’t always match up to reality. But Jessica soon meets and is drawn to Felix, a take-it-easy musician who lacks much routine and seems a polar opposite to Jessica. But, this being a romcom, the two have a spark and connection between them.

Across the show’s 10 episodes, we follow the evolution of their relationship and how it’s definitely not always plain sailing- happily ever after is certainly not guaranteed. Our two main characters have baggage and flaws and are hung up on past mistakes, despite their desire to start anew. As Will Sharpe said to Netflix’s Tudum, the question the show poses is, “Can you shed that baggage in order to feel free in this relationship and commit to this relationship?” Expect plenty of ups and downs and a more realistic depiction of falling in love than, say, Notting Hill.

Who else stars?
Too Much also boasts quite a few big-name stars as part of the cast, ranging from guest appearances to recurring characters. Some of the names include Richard E. Grant (Saltburn), Stephen Fry (The Dropout), Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl) and Rhea Perlman (Cheers). There’s also set to be guest appearances from Kit Harington (Industry), Andrew Scott (Fleabag), Jessica Alba (LA’s Finest), Andrew Rannells (Invincible), Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and Rita Wilson (Girls). Too Much will release on Netflix on 10th July.
