Art enthusiasts will be drawn to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery, where the exhibits are just the beginning. The Portrait Restaurant, a contemporary British restaurant by Richard Corrigan located on the fourth floor,  offering breath-taking sunset views of Trafalgar Square and Big Ben. Adorned with portraits of a selection of writers, musicians, and poets with Irish connections, The Portrait Restaurant seamlessly combines art with signature Corrigan dishes offering premium cuisine.

Chef Corrigan brings his extensive experience from the UK and Ireland to The Portrait Restaurant, where guests can expect warm Irish hospitality and menus crafted from skilled artisans and seasonal ingredients. The ever-evolving menu showcases the finest land and sea offerings, reflecting his commitment to simplicity, seasonality, and sustainability. Signature dishes include Gazpacho, Courgette Cream, Native Lobster, and fillet of beef with spinach and peppercorn sauce. Classic sides like chips and mash are available, and a set menu offers two courses of some of central London’s best cuisine for £34, all while enjoying stunning views of Trafalgar Square.

From the bar, guests can enjoy some of the best views of London while sampling a menu of bar snacks, classic and signature cocktails, and contemporary food options. Indulge in a signature cocktail, such as a Salt & Vinegar Martini or Chilli Pepper Margarita, as the sun sets over the city. No matter your choice, you’ll be glad you visited. To celebrate the launch of the Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’S Queens exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, The Portrait is delighted to present six new ways to toast their legacy.

Six twists on a Classic Spritz, each inspired by the unique history of each Queen, will be available on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery, at The Portrait Restaurant by Richard Corrigan from 18th June. From Anne of Cleves hardy German heritage to Catherine Parr’s everlasting resilience, each cocktail takes you on a journey through their chequered pasts. To pair with your drink, receive an exclusive coaster with corresponding artwork from the exhibition. The perfect way to continue your experience – whether post-exhibit, or pre-theatre!

Open for lunch every day, and for all-day dining from Wednesday to Saturday, until 10.30 pm (last sitting at 8.15pm)  reservations are recommended during peak times.

 The Portrait Restaurant is a proud collaboration between Richard Corrigan and Searcys, an award-winning restauranteur, and events caterer, who have been part of London’s hospitality scene for over 175 years, who focus on serving fresh, seasonal dishes that focus on sustainability while adding a touch of indulgence and finesse to each of their venues.
