Netflix, murder mysteries, Keira Knightley: three things that should go together like bread and butter. The Woman in Cabin 10, a new thriller coming to the streaming service this year, sees the star play a journalist who’s on a luxury cruise voyage as part of a work assignment. While there, she witnesses what appears to be a sinister murder- only to find that seemingly no one believes her. Also starring Guy Pearce and Hannah Waddingham, it definitely looks like a winner- read on for all we know so far.

What is the Woman in Cabin 10 about?

The Woman in Cabin 10 is based on the novel of the same name by Ruth Ware, which came out back in 2016, and stars Keira Knightley as an inquisitive journalist. In the book, the character is called Lo Blacklock, but Netflix has yet to confirm whether the character names will remain the same for the series. In any case, Knightley’s character is assigned to go on a luxury cruise ship across the seas, and it certainly sounds like an ideal job to be given. As she boards, she finds it’s so far, so good, but the seemingly dream journey is disrupted for her one night out of the blue. She witnesses the horrifying sight of someone, apparently dead, being thrown overboard.

Disturbed, the writer tries to alert others to the incident but discovers that no one else has any knowledge of it- quite the opposite, they flat-out deny it. Did she dream the whole thing, as it’s suggested she did by other passengers? If she didn’t, surely someone else would’ve heard the splash? What’s more puzzling and alarming is that everyone onboard is apparently accounted for so who went over? With the knowledge that one or more people on the ship might have murderous intentions, and putting her own life in danger, she sets out to find answers.

Who else stars, and what else do we know?

Netflix’s thriller will feature a few other well-known faces, including A Spy Among Friends Guy Pearce and The Fall Guy’s Hannah Waddingham. Also appearing are Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen), David Morrisey (The Walking Dead), David Ajala (The Jetty), Kaya Scodelario (The Gentlemen) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface). The upcoming film is directed by Simon Stone (The Daughter) and is currently in production, though it doesn’t have a release date yet. Stay tuned for more info in the coming months.
