Theo James Returns For The Gentlemen Season 2: What We Know

15th August 2024 | By Rufus Punt

Earlier this year, Guy Ritchie‘s crime comedy series The Gentlemen burst onto Netflix and quickly became one of its most-watched shows, topping their streaming charts and earning plenty of praise as one of the hits of the year. Another season seemed like a sure thing, and now thankfully for everyone who enjoyed it, Netflix has greenlit another outing. Eddie Horniman’s exploits in the criminal underworld will be further explored in Season 2 and continue his story in the drug business. Here’s all we know about it so far:

What’s been confirmed about The Gentlemen Season 2?

‌The second season will reunite Theo James as Eddie and much of the same cast of Season 1, along with creator Guy Ritchie, who’s also working on the upcoming Young Sherlock Holmes for Amazon Prime. A quick recap might be in order of the events of last season who those who need a refresh: we’re introduced to Eddie Horniman, who’s surprised to find that he’s inherited the estate of his late father, along with the swanky title of the Duke of Halstead.

It’s revealed to him that the several thousand hectares of the estate are being used for a marijuana empire and that he’s now as a result part of the criminal underworld. Unfortunately, other gangsters want a piece of the pie and try to make a hostile takeover. By the end of the eight episodes (spoilers of course!), Eddie manages to solidify his hold over both his estate and the entirety of the weed business run by the ruthless Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario).

So, what’s next?

We know for sure that both Theo James and Kaya Scodelario will be coming back for the second season, along with Daniel Ings (Freddy Horniman, Eddie’s coke-addicted brother in the show). An in-depth plot reveal has yet to be announced by Netflix, but it would appear that the series will further explore the world of British crime that Eddie has now become accustomed to. He and Susie are now co-owners of the drug empire, and they’ll be looking to expand the business, make money and move into other areas, as well as fending off anyone looking to make moves against them.

But perhaps more important than the actual ins and outs of crime life is their relationship and how it will evolve in this season- “I think they’ve grown to love each other in their own way, but I think they’ll never fully trust each other because they are so different and they’re from such vastly different worlds…ultimately they will never be from the same cloth,” James said in an interview to Netflix’s Tudum.

When will it release?

If you’re keen for more The Gentlemen, filming is not slated to start until next year, so it’ll likely be a while to wait for Season 2- but for now you can watch (or rewatch) the first season over on Netflix
