Austin Butler And Zoë Kravitz’s Crime Comedy, Caught Stealing, Is Out This Weekend

Love a crime comedy like Netflix’s The Gentlemen series or Glass Onion? Austin Butler (The Bikeriders) and Zoë Kravitz (The Batman) are starring together in the new Darren Aronofsky film Caught Stealing, set in 1990s New York City.
Butler plays a former baseball player who falls into New York’s crime underworld after meeting a gang of criminals, with a cast that also includes Matt Smith (House of the Dragon), Live Schreiber (Asteroid City) and Bad Bunny (Bullet Train). Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Caught Stealing about?
Darren Aronofsky is best known for his dark, disturbing psychological dramas like Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan and Mother! – so Caught Stealing seems to be a departure. It’s based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston (who also pens the screenplay), and stars Butler as Hank Thompson, a down-on-his-luck guy who was once a promising school baseball player and is now working as a bartender in NYC. He’s got a stable job and a stable girlfriend in Yvonne (Kravitz), but is nonetheless drawn into a life of crime when he does a favour for his punk neighbour Russ (Smith).

He’s asked to simply look after the rocker’s cat, but suddenly finds himself in the middle of a gang war of different factions in the city, who apparently have reason to target him. Hank has no idea who they are or why they’re after him, but he’ll have to figure out a way to remain alive long enough that he can find out. Yvonne isn’t exactly thrilled that they’re now both in danger and that Hank seems determined to face off with the gangsters one way or another, but doesn’t have much choice when he picks up his baseball bat and starts swinging.
What else do we know?
With flashy visuals, pulpy violence and The Clash playing in the background, the official trailer definitely makes Caught Stealing look closer to a Guy Ritchie film than Black Swan, with it being described as a “love letter to NYC” by Aronofsky. The trailer also showcases some of the supporting cast members, like pop megastar Bad Bunny and Live Schreiber as various gangsters competing to get their hands on Hank. Other notable appearances include Regina King (Shirley), Griffin Dunne (The French Dispatch) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil). Caught Stealing is set to release in UK cinemas on 29th August.
