We’re Calling It: Cobalt Blue Is The Colour Of The Summer

If there is one colour we are seeing everywhere right now, it is cobalt blue. Whilst it offers a pop of intense shade, it also feels quite utilitarian, meaning it goes with most things – especially summer whites and other peppy primary colours – we especially love it with a pop of red. We’ve handpicked some of our favourite cobalt looks from Instagram, from Lucy Williams‘ low-key travel-inspired look, to Arielle Charnas’ nod to ’80s glam.

This month saw the launch of what is set to be one of summer’s biggest collabs, the Lucy Williams X With Nothing Underneath capsule collection. Inspired by Lucy’s well-documented love of travel, cobalt is a defining shade of the range. We love these relaxed trousers styled with a simple white vest, leather flip-flops and bohemian jewels.

We love Lisbon influencer Mafalda’s eclectic style, taking some of SS26’s key trends but making them feel entirely her own. If you want to try (or make a return to) the capri pant that’s everywhere this season, the easiest way to do it is with an oversized shirt, which makes it feel a little less scary and far more wearable.

This COS plaid shirt is giving Bottega, but without the eye-watering price tag. We love the juxtaposition of pairing it with something really feminine, like a lace-trimmed silk slip.

Lessons in layering from Insta star Olivia here. Take a pair of light-wash baggy jeans and layer up with a pretty bohemian prairie dress. A shot of cobalt blue knit finishes off the look and is much needed with this indecisive weather.

Look 5
Cobalt can look really impactful and chic in the evening – this Gabriela Hearst silk blazer has a punchy ’80s feel to it. Keep the rest of the look really simple with navy pleated trousers and leather accessories.

Look 6
Cobalt works really well in off-duty jackets – the colour gives your look a pop, but feels quite utilitarian, meaning it goes with most things. Go for a classic men’s worker style or something a little more special, like Karen Millen’s high-collar, sumptuous suede. White denim and The Row-esque (for a fraction of the price) flip-flops finish the look.
