From free-spirited dresses to ‘70s-inspired flares, figure-hugging co-ords to cute mini dresses, bags and even shoes, the crochet fashion trend has made its way onto just about every item this season. Scroll on for our edit of all the best pieces you’ll find on the high street and from high-end brands if you’re after something a little more special.

Summer 2024 is all about optimistic dressing and crochet is a trend that near-enough hits it on the head. The look conjures up images of salty skin and messy hair in Ibiza’s famous hippy coves or free love and peace from the fields of ‘60s Woodstock. It’s also a trend that leans into bright colour perfectly, with plenty of pieces that feature a patchwork of rainbow hues, perfect if you’re not into bold prints but still want a summer wardrobe that’s going to make an impact.

And whilst lots of crochet pieces err on the side of statement, there are more sobering ways to work the trend. An off-white crochet midi looks impossibly chic over a classic black swimsuit on the beach or by the pool – as demonstrated here by Katie Impey, whilst flower-patch crochet flares can bring an element of fun to a trusty oversized shirt.

‌If you’re looking to invest, check out luxury resort brands such as Zimmermann, whose intricate layering and frill details bring a sophisticated, evening-worthy edge to the trend; and ESCVDO whose beautiful craftsmanship has worked its way into everything from chic two-pieces to French Riviera-inspired column dresses.

Crochet Dresses

Whether you love a micro mini or feel more comfortable in a midi, the crochet dresses come in all iterations this season. For the former, look to Free People for a ‘60s take on the trend with their cream Rue tunic dress – we love it paired with block-heeled mules, beachy shell jewellery and a cute shoulder bag; or tap into perennial summer stripes with Mango’s cute ice-lolly-hued midi.

Crochet Trousers & Shorts

Not all crochet is made for the beach. Make like Kate Impey AKA The Mum Life Styled and pair crochet flares with a smarter denim gilet. Perfect for hot days in the city.

A multicoloured crochet top is a great way to inject a little fun into your summer wardrobe, even if you’re not lucky enough to be jetting off to warmer climes.

Crochet Skirts

A lemon crochet skirt might feel the part on a yacht but you can make it work in the city by layering over a slip skirt and oversized linen shirt.

Crochet Accessories

If you’re daunted by the thought of a head-to-toe open-weave, accessories are a great way to dip your toe into the trend. Add a crochet bag, shoe or belt to your go-to looks for a bohemian feel.
