Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen and Sandra Oh in a fantastical comedy about money, happiness and angels- if that doesn’t sound like one of the most intriguing movie premises of the year, what does? The new film Good Fortune, which is coming to cinemas in the UK in October, is directed and written by Aziz Ansari, who also stars as a struggling employee of a wealthy venture capitalist (Rogen), who is one day offered help by an angel (Reeves). Unfortunately, not everything goes to plan- here’s all you need to know:

What is Good Fortune about?

Arj (Ansari) is a hardworking man who’s down on his work and struggling in life. To make an income, he starts doing various odd jobs and grunt work for a very rich employer, Rogen’s socialite character, Jeff. Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves plays an angel named Gabriel, who’s well-meaning but unfortunately incompetent at his job. The “budget guardian angel” arrives on Earth to find Arj at his lowest point, having had his car towed in a restaurant car park.

Gabriel is sure he can find a fix to Arj’s problems, despite Arj’s scepticism, and is adamant that money can’t buy happiness. He decides to back this up by using a bit of Freaky Friday-style magic and making Arj and Jeff swap lives. Arj is now the one with tons of money and a pool in the garden, and Jeff is now the one struggling with bills. Since Gabriel’s theory falls flat with Arj having the time of his life, the angel has his wings taken from him by Martha (played by Sandra Oh), another angel, and is sent to Earth to live amongst humans. He befriends the displaced Jeff, who’s now his roommate, and finds that his work as an angel is beginning to unravel.

You can watch the first trailer for Good Fortune below, which showcases Reeves, Rogen, Ansari and Oh in action as their (often bickering) characters. Also in the mix is Keke Palmer (Nope), who stars as a co-worker of Arj’s at a hardware store, and is trying to get the rest of the employees to unionise.

UK release date

Good Fortune is scheduled to release in cinemas on 17th October.
