Kevin Hart Takes Off In High Stakes Heist Comedy, Lift
It’s not secret that we love a Netflix original, from action-thriller The Mother to fantasy-adventure Damsel. Another release we’re excited for is a new heist comedy starring Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Vincent D’Onofrio slated to arrive on the platform this weekend..
Lift, Netflix’s new big hit, sees a master thief (Hart) who’s wooed by his ex-girlfriend and the FBI’s plan to execute a seemingly impossible heist on a jet airliner with his crew.
What is Lift about?
Cyrus (Hart) is a thief notorious for pulling off audacious heists with his international crew consisting of some of the best in the world at getting things stolen. So much so, that the FBI turns to him, through his ex-girlfriend, because he’s the only one capable of pulling off a heist mid-flight on a 777 plane. The plane, flying across Europe from London to Zurich, is involved in a terrorist plot to carry out an attack, and the heist is the only way to stop it from happening. Only problem is, the mission seems pretty much impossible, and Hart’s character is reluctant to commit himself and his crew to such a dangerous task.
If the high stakes of the plot aren’t enough to have you on board, then the talent both in-front and behind the camera should be.
Who else stars?
Alongside Hart is a cast that have appeared in several high profile Netflix shows: Black Mirror’s Mbatha-Raw, who was also recently seen in Apple drama The Surface, plays the ex-girlfriend of Hart’s master thief determined to get him to accept the job.
In addition, Vincent D’Onofrio, who received acclaim in Netflix series Daredevil as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, is also among the main cast members, along with Úrsula Corbero (Tokyo in Money Heist), Billy Magnusson (Maniac) and Jean Reno (Da 5 Bloods).
Rounding out the cast are Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Burn Gorman (The Expanse) and Sam Worthington (Avatar: The Way of the Water).
Lift’s director meanwhile is F. Gary Gray, who’s helmed the remake of The Italian Job, Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious. It’s also produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves.
Is there a release date?
Netflix’s Lift is set to release on the streamer from 12th January 2024.
