A man and a woman sit on chairs outside, facing each other like characters in a Netflix thriller. The man wears a dark shirt with a loosened red tie, while the woman wears a blue blouse and black trousers. A window and trees are visible in the background.

Netflix excels at making intense psychological thrillers that keep you gripped – so if you need something new to watch during the cold nights of January, their latest series, His and Hers, looks like a perfect solution. Starring The Bear and Daredevil star Jon Bernthal opposite Thor’s Tessa Thompson, it’s a mystery thriller that follows Anna (Thompson) as she investigates a murder in her hometown. Here’s everything you need to know:

What is His and Hers about?

His and Hers (not to be confused with the classic Pulp album) is based on the novel by Alice Feeney, and is definitely one of our most anticipated shows this month. It might be released in wintery January, but the drama is set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Georgia, and centres on the reclusive Anna. Her career as a once-successful, highly popular news anchor is fading away due to her reluctance to go out, and she seems to be drifting further and further from her friends. She’s described her as haunted by past events that will be revealed as the series goes on. Despite her current seclusion, she happens to hear talk of a murder that has occurred in her hometown of Dahlonega. Intrigued, Anna begins investigating and soon becomes obsessed with a crime that occurred in such familiar surroundings.

Two people in business attire stand in a brightly lit, clinical corridor, speaking with a third person whose back is to the camera. The man looks serious, while the woman stands with arms folded, channelling the intensity of a Netflix thriller.

Also on the case is Jack Harper, a detective at the sheriff’s office who lives in Dahlonega with his sister and niece, and lost his previous job. What makes things interesting, though, is that Jack is actually married to Anna, but the two are estranged due to complications and feelings of betrayal in their relationship that couldn’t be fixed. Jack may be a good man, but he doesn’t always make good decisions, and his and Anna’s mutual interest in the case sets them on a collision course. Both are suspicious of each other, and as Netflix’s longline says, there are always two sides to every story: his and hers.

What else do we know, and is there a release date?

The six-part miniseries also stars Crystal Fox (The Big Door Prize) as Anna’s mother, Alice, who hasn’t heard from her in months, Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project) as Lexy, the charismatic new news anchor who has taken Anna’s place, and Pablo Schrieber (The Wire) as cameraman and Lexy’s husband, Richard. His and Hers is now streaming on Netflix, and you can watch the trailer below.
