We’re sashaying into the weekend chasing after RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants, munching our way through Veganuary options and filling our Instafeed with one too many snaps of Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights. And, if this sounds like your ideal weekend, here’s all the details:
It wouldn’t be a weekend guide without including a stellar photography exhibition and this week’s is the wonderful body of early works from Silvia Rosi and Theo Simpson.
Drawing inspiration from her family life and Togolaise heritage, Rosi’s work champions colour and black and white photography, and shows Rosi exploring with a new medium for the first time – video. While Simpson’s work captures changing landscapes in today’s world, intersecting theory, myth and fact. It’s part of the Jerwood/Photoworks Awards.

If you’re mourning the end of London’s illuminating Christmas lights, fear not because this Thursday sees the arrival of Canary Wharf’s award-winning Winter Lights festival and it’s already looking like it’s capturing a few ‘grammars eyes. Canary Wharf will be armed with a 340 metre display of neon and LED glowing lights flowing through Jubilee Park, glistening trees and blooming flowers all illuminating the streets. ‘Gram at the ready!

RuPaul’s DragCon is flying across the pond to London for the first time! Bringing all of their goops and gags from their fabulous US convention and packing it into two days. You’ll be able to shop the amazing vendors, visit the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and select US Queens, and enjoy some of your favourite panels and performances at the Main Stage. Now sashay away!

Whizz into the weekend in style on Selfridge’s giant yellow slide! It’s as bizarre as it sounds but the meaning behind it is rather special. Selfridge’s has launched a sustainable and ethical coffee shop pop-up which helps to train ex-offenders and offers work opportunities in the process. Enjoy a warm brew and channel your inner child as you zoom down the big ol’ slide.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll have noticed that veganism has enjoyed a steady incline of popularity in the last couple of years and we’re currently revelling in a whole month of extra vegan love for Veganuary. Lots of non-vegan venues are stepping up to the plate throughout January with their vegan offerings including All Star Lanes who has teamed up with organic, vegan restaurant, Genesis.
For a limited time guests will be able to choose from strike-ing dishes like Korean BBQ wings, cheese sticks, and their American woman burger which comprises of a seitan patty, Whiskey BBQ sauce, onion rings, tomato, jalapeños, house slaw and fresh pickles topped with vegan cheese. If none of those options bowl you over then let’s end things on a sweet note with their Tiramisu dessert made with cashew nut & coconut cream, coffee, Amaretto, coffee liqueur and coconut mascarpone dusted with cocoa powder.
The All Star Lanes x Genesis menu is available until 2nd February at all All Star Lanes venues.
Partaking in dry January? Or, fancy something other than a glass of fizz this weekend? Dine sky-high this weekend and try one of Searcys at The Gherkin’s new wellness menus. Over in the Iris Bar, Franklin & Sons has taken to the stage offering a Flavour Discovery Experience that takes guests on a journey through varying no-and-low alcohol pairings. It’s then paired beautifully against a plant-led set lunch. So it’s a win-win for those looking for a lighter option this January.

Catch the TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh exhibition before it returns to its permanent display back in Egypt. This weekend explore Tutankhamun’s items like the gold inlaid miniature coffin which originally contained the king’s liver and a wooden bed most likely made for his funeral. It’s slightly creepy but it’s definitely worth catching while you can.

We’re soaring over to Copenhagen for a one off experience of all things Nordic at the exceptional Norwegian kitchen, Ekte. Head chef Jamie Lee of Kødbyens Fiskebar in Copenhagen will be bringing Londoners a slice of the Danish way of life in his lunch and dinner takeover.
