9 Royally Good Ways to Celebrate the Queen’s Birthday
It’s time for round 2, but this time it’s official; Saturday 11th June is the Queen’s official 90th birthday, following on from her actual birthday back in April. If it all sounds a bit confusing, don’t worry, all you need to know is where to head for Coronation chicken, scones and doggy street parties, and you’ll find it all below.
Covent Garden Hotel
Royal-Tea
A royal afternoon tea is the obvious choice for a regal celebration and when this includes a praline choux bun, opera cake, strawberry tart, apple and elderflower jelly and Victoria sponge (as well as sandwiches) you’re spoilt for choice. A specially created birthday platter is also available, complete with Coronation chicken skewers and English strawberries with crown shortbread as well as the Lillibet 90 cocktail; wild berry rum, Vermouth, lemon and raspberry syrup and Prosecco topped with a Union Jack butterfly. Available until 12th June.

Bark Walk
Doggy Street Party
Her Majesty loves her corgies so bring your own beloved pooch along to the Bark Walk street party in Chelsea’s Park Walk (clever…) on Sunday 12th June, where local restaurants including GOAT, The Henry Root and maze Grill are putting on a royal spread for the two-legged amongst us; pizza, burgers, truffle mac n cheese, whilst those with four legs can nibble on doggy biscuits from Gail’s Bakery. A pet spa, doggy portraits, bouncy castle and giant Pimm’s teapot ensures no one is left out.

A Brunch Fit For a Royal
This brunch isn’t the hungover sort of brunch you roll out of bed for and then spend the next hour looking forlornly at a pancake wishing you hadn’t had quite so much to drink last night. No this is the sort of brunch where you dress up in your linen suits, flowing dresses, Panama hats and lace, it is to celebrate the Queen after all. Taking place in the Spa Fields Park, the brunch will include the likes of B&H granola, English muffins and of course bacon and eggs. After raise a toast to Her Majesty at the bar with a cocktail or two and then lie back on the grass and watch the live music and performances or get involved with the games!

The Botanist Broadgate Circle
Toast to Her Majesty
Bottomless brunch is getting the night time treatment at The Botanist Broadgate Circle with bottomless ETM wine, beer and Prosecco on Saturday 11th June alongside a 2 or 3-course dinner. Live music is getting the royal treatment at 10pm, when God Save the Queen will be performed on stage, although after a few hours of bottomless drinking we reckon the audience will be heavily involved too.

The Ampersand Hotel
Birthday Cake
You don’t get much more British than having afternoon tea (it was of course invented by the Duchess of Bedfordshire a close friend of Queen Victoria) and everyone needs cake on their birthday, so it only seems right of course to indulge in afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. The Ampersand’s royal offering includes rose and raspberry open macaroons, a blackberry and violet crown with golden decorations, chocolate and mandarin mousse and lemonade jelly with blueberry, cucumber and mint foam.

Elizabeth Street Party
A Very British Street Party
The annual Elizabeth Street Party is back and this time the theme is all things British. The afternoon starts off with a traditional fete feel – think coconut shys, a royal fancy dress parade and face painting, then come the evening there’ll be a right British knees up with dancing, food from the likes of Thomas Cubitt, Peggy Porchen and drinks from The Ebury Restaurant and Wine Bar and Jeraboam. If you needed another reason to go then they’re raising money for the charity Westminster Befriend a Family so you can party and know you’re helping someone out too.

The Botanist Broadgate Circle
The Queen's Favourite
We all know that the Queen is partial is to a Dubonnet gin cocktail and so whilst we can’t all live like a queen we can all drink like one at The Botanist Broadgate Circle. They’ll be serving them alongside Jam Pennies (round jam sandwiches) which they are deep frying and finishing with vanilla ice-cream and fresh strawberries. Cheers to that!
