Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!
Alright, alright, we know we don’t actually have the sea on our doorsteps. And, while we don’t always want to drive down to Brighton just to be stuck in top-to-tow traffic for half the day, us Londoner’s are definitely in need of something. But finally, London has urban beaches galore popping up across the city and oh buoy, have we found some hidden gems for you (and thank goodness they’re literally down the road!).
We’ve pieced together a list of the best London urban beaches – well, we shorely think so anyway, enjoy!
We know water we’re doing this weekend! If you’re looking for the ultimate beach escape without the cost or travel (or coast, for that matter), then Fulham Beach is for you. Wash away your day-to-day stresses and enjoy one of their sharing cocktails on a cabana or one of their daybeds.
They’ve even got big ol’ feasting tables you can hire out and devour sharer plates. Or if you’ve got more a sweet tooth, dig into their smore’s pizza, covered in Nutella and toast marshmallows, mmm!
Shhhh! We’re about to let you in on a secret.
Tucked away in the London Secret Garden you’ll find one of London’s best kept secrets – the London Secret Beach. Take off your sandals and prepare to dip your toes in a little sand, but we promise their cocktail sharing bowls will be worth the sandy socks after! Choose from sun loungers, cosy cabanas and beach-style sofas and bask in the sun (while it lasts!). While the warm weather kicks about, it’s best to book in advance but don’t forget to keep it a secret!
Join in on the shellebration at The Montague on the Gardens in their award-winning Beach Bar. Think sandy shores, beach-hut style thatched roofs, palm trees galore and fruity cocktails, and you’ll soon feel as though you’re basking in the Bahamas rather than cloudy ol’ London. To get you in the true seaside spirit, The Montague on the Gardens chefs will be rustling up a delicious selection of barby options including meat, fish and veggie dishes and tantalisingly good desserts including ice cream to cool you down in the heat.
There’s also the ultimate beach packages for groups equipped with exclusive use of the Beach Bar, floral leis, BBQ summer options and more… That’s certainly somefin to celebrate!
Life’s a beach when you’re partying at London City Beach. As you may have seen, their parties have been filling up our Insta feeds non-stop throughout June, and it’s your last chance to let your blow in the Thames breeze, enjoy your favourite tipple and feel the sand between your toes at their summer party events. So you need to grab your tickets quick as there’s only a couple more events being held this July. Expect VIP beach huts, garden and beach games, palm trees and, of course, a whole load of sand…
The last few parties are running July 7th, 13th and 20th
School’s out for summer! And what better way than to celebrate with a splash in a pool. The Royal Victoria Dock will once again become a home of family-filled fun this summer, featuring a paddling pool twice the size of last year. Kids can enjoy making building sandcastles while the adults dose off for a peaceful five minutes shut eye in a deck chair.
Running July 27th – August 30th
While you’re busy tanning yourself, your kiddies will be able to play in the sand courtesy of The Beach Brent Cross. This year, you’ll find more sand, more space and a tonne more water so cool you down from the cities heat. If sand isn’t your thing, then there’s over 25 different rides for your little tots right through to rollercoasters for the adults.
From July 13th until September 8th, the opening hours will be extended to Mon – Sun, 12pm – 10pm
Believe it or not, you’ll actually find the closest (semi real, it’s still artificial) beach to London is actually on the Piccadilly Line! Yep, you’ll find a 60 acre lake in Ruislip of all places!
Obviously Ruislip Lido is a far cry from your everyday sandpit… It’s home to a range of facilities (and many a species of wildlife), with its huge stretch of sand becoming crammed full of Londoner’s fleeing the cityscape. Although there’s no swimming allowed in the lake, kiddies can splash about in the water splash pad on the beach side, so it’ll almost feel like you’re aboard! If you get fed of having sandy toes, why not explore the Ruislip Lido by rail on board the Narrow Gauge railway.
Party like the celebs as you’re transported to the sun kissed beaches of Los Angeles for the ultimate summer beach party cinema…in London. Yep, Backyard Cinema returns this summer, this time bringing the West Coast with them. Although it’s a covered beach, let’s face it, we live in the UK after all, and our weather is questionable at times… But you’re soon to be hanging by the beach bar, sipping on fruity cocktails under palm trees, and walking barefoot down along the sandy shores.
Running July 18th – August 24th
