Anya Taylor-Joy’s New Crime Thriller Drops On Streaming In July, Here Is All We Know

Anya Taylor-Joy already has a pretty big year ahead of her, starring in the likes of Dune: Part Three in December- but before that, she’s leading the cast of Apple TV’s new crime thriller miniseries Lucky. She plays the titular main character, a young woman who’s trying to leave her criminal past behind, even if it means skirting the law one last time. Also starring the likes of Annette Bening and Timothy Olyphant, the show is set to debut on streaming in July. Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Lucky about?
Lucky follows Taylor-Joy’s previous work with Apple TV, the sci-fi romance The Gorge, and is based on the book of the same name by Marissa Stapley, released in 2021. It centres on a woman only known as Lucky, who’s lived a life of crime for all of her life, having been raised to think of it as a normality for her. Now she’s married to Cary, played by Drew Starkey (Queer) and is now coming to a crossroads. In one of the classic crime thriller setups, she takes part in a multi-million-dollar heist, but it ends up going seriously wrong, leaving her on the run and reassessing where to go next. The FBI soon gets involved in investigating the case, and they’re not the only ones hot on her tail.

Enter Priscillia, a dangerous mob boss played by Apples Never Fall star Bening, who is out for Lucky’s head. With the feds and an organised crime syndicate pursuing her, Lucky is forced to fight back. But with everything going on, and with her years of breaking the law catching up to her, our anti-hero commits to finding a way out, leaving her criminal ways behind and finally going straight. The main skill in her arsenal is being a gifted con artist, and Apple’s logline teases that she’ll need to “embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”
Who else is in the cast, and what else do we know?
Justified star Olyphant plays John, Lucky’s father, who we’ll meet along the way, while Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Nickel Boys) plays Agent Billie Rand, who we’re assuming is high up in the FBI investigation. Also starring are Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld), Mo McRae (The Flight Attendant) and William Fichtner (Beef). Reese Witherspoon is an executive producer through her company Hello Sunshine, and the miniseries is created by Johnathan Trooper, who also created Apple’s other series Your Friends & Neighbours.
When does it release?
Lucky will premiere on Apple TV on July 15th 2026, and you can watch the teaser trailer below.
