Our Fashion Editor Picks Her Top M&S New-Ins

The Handbook’s Contributing Fashion & Lifestyle Editor popped into M&S this week to find all the best bits from their new-season collections. From flirting with AW25’s primary colours trend to the brown suede jacket she can’t stop thinking about, here’s what she found…

I haven’t shopped in M&S for a while (food hall aside), but their new-season edit is just too tempting. Although it’s still the height of summer, their new arrivals have me ready for autumnal dressing: think buttery-soft brown suede, inky denim, and easy-to-layer transitional coats.
My first find? This brown striped shirt. Oversized, with a thick, substantial stripe and chunky pocket detail, it feels like a fresh take on an old classic. I’ll be wearing it now over a brown swimsuit by the pool for a last splash of summer. When the weather cools, I’ll tuck it into tailored trousers with a neckerchief for a look that’s easy, smart and comfortable.

Next up, yellow. Now, I love a soft buttery yellow, but that bright sunshine shade doesn’t feel quite me. However, primary colours are having a bit of a moment right now (read our recent primary colour edit here), so I embraced the vivid shade and tried on this ruched waist dress. The tie-waist detail is super flattering, and I was pleasantly surprised. The mid-weight linen-blend fabric is breezy enough to wear now with sandals, but would also work perfectly in autumn, paired with knee-high boots in a ’70s kind of way.

I’m a self-confessed sucker for a pretty white top, and M&S’s current selection does not disappoint. I instantly fell for this embroidered lace tie-front top (perfectly tapping into the new-season lace trend), which paired perfectly with this sweet, deer-esque print skirt that feels like a nice, subtle alternative to leopard. A note of caution: neither was available online when I looked. Your best bet is to pop into a store or keep checking the website for a restock.

I’ve had my eye out for a vinyl coat for ages, and this shorter style might just be the one. It’s the perfect throw-on piece that makes any look feel effortlessly edgy.

M&S has really tapped into the trends this season, but they also have plenty of timeless classics to work into a capsule wardrobe. This navy car coat felt very Sézane but for half the price, whilst this cheesecloth white blouse actually did come home with me. Size up two sizes for a more bohemian feel.
This buttery-soft, retro-cut suedette jacket is perfect for transitioning seasons. While it’s not substantial enough for a UK winter, its lightweight feel makes it ideal for layering. Wear it as a top over a tee or layer it under a chunky coat for extra warmth.

I came across some standout accessories that I think you’ll love. First up is a cute mini bowling bag that’s right on trend – this shape is set to be huge next season. It’s the perfect size for your essentials and adds a fun, retro touch to any outfit.
I also spotted some great black retro-sports-style trainers. I’m predicting the black sneaker is going to be a major trend for autumn/winter.
A cute ballet flat is nothing new, but I do love the chocolatey hue and modern square toe of these.
