Rain Dogs Is An Anarchic New Dark Comedy Starring Daisy May Cooper

Daisy May Cooper has had a fast rise in the world of TV comedy in the past few years, from breaking out as Kerry Mucklow in This Country, to becoming a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and starring in comedy thriller Am I Being Unreasonable? on BBC One. She’s now set to star in the BBC’s new dark comedy drama Rain Dogs, written by Cash Carraway and produced by Killing Eve and Extraordinary’s production company Sid Gentle.
Cooper stars in the leading role of Costello Jones, a writer and single mother. Described as having a “rock and roll swagger”, Costello mostly enjoys her rebellious, anarchic life style, but doesn’t want her daughter to end up the same way. Iris (Fleur Tashjian) loves her mum but fancies herself as a hustler, and is a fan of South Park and William Morris wallpaper.
Costello’s soulmate Selby, played by Jack Farthing (The Lost Daughter) is a boarding school boy, and “educated on Brett Easton Ellis and Goddard”, with a love of playful torment to Costello. Gloria meanwhile is Iris’ godmother, who somehow has a more chaotic and directionless lifestyle than the others- but is still loving and glorious, and played by Doctor Who and Alex Rider’s Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo.

The four are our titular Rain Dogs, described as a makeshift family who, despite their bombastic and chaotic nature still all have a deep love for each other- even if it is complicated. This dysfunctional family, that lives “on the fringes of society, attempting to go straight in a crooked world” live in the difficult landscape of austerity hit Britain. Their world is stunted by poverty and prejudice, and Costello, despite being used to the lower class world she grew up in, wants Iris to have a better chance in life. Iris is already taking a liking go the hustler lifestyle, and despite their strong love, the two fall out over Costello’s attempts to change Iris’ path.
Rain Dogs is currently filming, and there’s a few images of the show that have been released, but so far there’s nothing in the way of a trailer or a release date, other than the fact it’s scheduled to air in 2023. The show is also being co-produced by HBO, who’ve been enjoying a run of successes with shows like The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
The eight part Rain Dogs will air on HBO in the US, and in BBC One in the U.K.
