As a huge fan of Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush – one of the top-selling products from Selena Gomez’s makeup brand – I may have given a loud ‘whoop’ when I heard about the launch of their Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush, which promises to “bring instant life to your cheeks”. While I adore the flush from the liquid version, I’m excited for the buildable, foolproof nature of a powder texture as opposed to a dripping liquid. Do these new Rare Beauty Luminous Powder Blushers live up to the hype? Here are my thoughts…

The Formula

It’s very fine, almost identical to the Liquid Blush, though more muted and lots more shimmer. The powder works best as a blush topper because they’re not as pigmented as the liquids. That being said, they’re super glowy and have a sheer pigment that gives skin a beautiful dewy glow and leaves no chalky or ashy residue behind. Blending (a must with a brush) takes a mere few seconds and it sat well on my skin for a good six hours.

The Shades

Disappointingly, there are just six colours to choose from. However, my favourite Liquid Blush shade, Hope, does have a sister, Luminous Powder, in the same hue, which pairs beautifully together and gives my cheeks the most incredible radiance when worn together and alone. Darker skin tones should opt for the deepest shade, Truth. There’s no denying the pigments are strong and well-formulated. I suspect the brand will extend the shade range in time.

The Packaging

Packaging is obviously secondary to formulation for Selena, which is really how it should be, but I’m a sucker for fab packaging! The beige compacts are simple and clean, and in keeping with rest of the brand – nothing to write home about! When it comes to detail though, they get top marks as the Powder Blush features an ample size mirror on the inside of the lid which makes application easy, especially on the go.

My Final Takeaway

If you’re not a shimmery blush kind of girl and prefer a matte finish or perhaps a separate highlighter, then this isn’t for you. But if a healthy flush is your signature look, then the new Powder Blush pairs perfectly with the Liquid Blush and will give you the most dramatic effect.

I for one, am completely taken with all the fuss, mainly because of the incredible radiance it leaves on my skin. In just one sweep, it noticeably lifts my whole complexion. Plus, for £27, it’s a perfectly reasonable price to pay for a brilliant wash of luminous colour.
