Everything We Know About Rosebush Pruning – Callum Turner & Elle Fanning’s New Thriller

If you like a darkly humorous thriller about the rich and vapid (a bit like Saltburn), then you might want to keep an eye on Rosebush Pruning, which is set to release in UK cinemas on July 10th. It’s got a sizeable cast, including Callum Turner, Elle Fanning, Jamie Bell, Riley Keough and Pamela Anderson, and tells the story of a wealthy but weird family who all have a bit too much dependency on each other. Intrigued? Here’s all you need to know:
What is Rosebush Pruning about?
Rosebush Pruning follows a rich but unnervingly strange family who live largely in isolation in an extravagant country estate. The family is led by a tyrannical father, played by Tracy Letts (A House of Dynamite), who’s married to the mother, played by Pamela Anderson. Like Saltburn, it’s a black comedy satirising the world of the wealthy, with thriller elements.

The plot focuses predominantly on the children, most notably Edward (Callum Turner) and Jack (Jamie Bell), the eldest son in the family. There’s also Anna (Riley Keough) and Robert (Lukas Gage), all of whom are used to living on their family’s huge fortune, and are each self-absorbed and stuck in warped existences. Turner’s Edward serves as the narrator for the film, introducing us to his oddball family. Things, however, begin to get complicated when Jack, who’s the apple of his parents’ eye and the child who is most “normal”, meets his girlfriend Martha, played by Elle Fanning.
Jack intends to leave the family residence to get closer to his new relationship, but this idea causes pushback from his siblings and parents. According to the film’s previews, Ed, Anna and Robert are jealous and yet have strange incestuous feelings toward Jack, creating a disturbing dynamic. They all decide to hatch a scheme to keep Jack from venturing out into the wider world and keep him as “theirs” as Rosebush Pruning twists into a psychological thriller.
What else do we know?
The film is a part remake of the cult Italian film Fists in the Pocket from 1965, and premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February. The first trailer gives a glimpse of the stylistic, slightly off-kilter tone and reveals that Pamela Anderson’s Mother character died prior to the events of the film and appears in flashbacks. “People are roses. Families are rosebushes. Rosebushes need pruning,” narrates Turner as Jack.
Release date
The good news is we don’t have long to wait for Rosebush Pruning to officially land in cinemas, with the release date set for July 10th 2026.
