In a world plagued with beautifying filters and digital alteration, perfectly smooth, even skin seems to be the norm for online content, but it’s not all there is in the influencer realm…

As someone who has struggled with adult acne and texture for a couple years, I always love finding content creators that I can relate to, that are unapologetically themselves, showing that confidence and self-love comes in all shapes and forms. Below is a compilation of 10 creators embracing their natural, unfiltered selves, showing a range of conditions through a positive and empowering lens.

Acne

Whether it’s debunking myths such as acne being the result of lack of cleanliness or showing textured skin under makeup, both Maia Gray (@its_just_acne) and Simphiwe Mbatha (@simphiwee_mb) are on a mission to treat themselves -and their skin- with kindness, no matter what it looks like.

Rosacea

After being diagnosed with rosacea for over 19 years, and having talked online about it for over 11, Lex Gillies (@talontedlex) educates her followers with everything she’s learned on her skin journey.

Don’t let the current state of her rosacea fool you! Let it be a ray of hope at the end of a long journey of hard work and consistency. Also, if you’d like to learn more about rosacea, read our ultimate rosacea guide with products and tips curated by none other than Dr Barbara Sturm.

Healing is possible, finding peace with your skin is possible, living a happy life with rosacea is possible.

Eczema

Aramidé Onashoga (@myatopicskin) and Bethany Jones (@bethanyajonesx) both have eczema, and are also raising awareness on Topical Steroid Withdrawal, a condition that causes the skin to experience redness, burning, itching, scabs and swelling, among other things for a length of time, after topical steroid medication is stopped. Their journeys are inspiring, pushing through challenges and aiming for representation. Aramidé shares, “My journey with steroid withdrawal has been part of the catalyst for unapologetically unhiding my eczema and living in the truth of my skin condition.”

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an auto-immune skin condition that occurs when pigment-producing cells stop working, leading to a loss of pigment in different areas of the skin. Vitiligo is non-curable, but it can be treated. Canadian model Winnie Harlow (@winnieharlow) is one of the most famous spokespeople with vitiligo, shedding light on the effects it can have on the perception of oneself and how others react to you.

Amber-Nicole (@withambernicole) and Dariya Koeva (@koevadariya) are two influencers who are also embracing vitiligo and exuding confidence in every post on their feed.

I want to show the world that beauty is whatever we each want it to be.

Alopecia

Alopecia is another auto-immune disease that causes the loss of hair on your scalp or your entire body, and it can be both temporary or permanent. Influencer Chloe Bean (@chl0ebean) was diagnosed at age 8 and has experienced baldness multiple times. In the process, she has learned that “loving who you are and embracing things that are far out of your control makes you unique, powerful, and beautiful”.

Dani (@danigmakeup) has been on a similar journey. Self-proclaiming herself as “your bald bestie” on Instagram, this makeup artist and business owner (@dmuse.wigs) is on a mission to spread positivity and redefine beauty standards, one post at a time.
