The Beauty Looks and Moments That Inspired Us In 2023

This year, we’ve seen all sorts of inspiring beauty trends going viral on TikTok, embraced by celebrities and filtering down onto the high street. From the more understated beauty looks to the more OTT, they were all deserving of our love in 2023. Here are some of our personal favourites…
The Icon: What Mrs Biebs Does
If Hailey Bieber isn’t shouting about it, it’s not considered a trend in our rulebook. We’ve seen glazed doughnut-inspired skin, with #glazeddoughnutskincare accumulating 23.9 million views on TikTok, the strawberry girl makeup looks and latte beauty (see below), explode on the internet with influencers and beauty junkies recreating Hailey’s looks.
And if that wasn’t enough, she then went on to launch her own cosmetic brand, Rhode Beauty, which unsurprisingly flew off the shelves. We can’t wait to see what Mrs Biebs has up her sleeve for 2024…
The Film Faves: Barbiecore
Our childhood doll reigned over fashion and beauty like no one else this year. Pink suddenly became everyone’s favourite colour.
Age, gender and personality did not come into the equation, we were all living in a Barbie world and channelling our own inner doll in our new pink wardrobe with our pink makeup and our Barbie merch.
Pink suddenly became everyone’s favourite colour.
The Movement: Genderless Beauty
Fast becoming the norm with new brands launching gender-neutral makeup, skincare and even hairstyles. Fully embracing the idea of self-expression and confidence while diversifying the beauty world, this is a trend that we predict is going to make a lot of noise in 2024. Actress Lupita Nyong’o is leading the way by rocking a shaved head. Documenting her look on her Instagram post: “I had found a new way to express myself without hair! So, the moral of the story is: Dare yourself to seek out beauty in new ways.” It seems the beauty rule book of yesterday has been torn into pieces and everything goes – how utterly refreshing.
I had found a new way to express myself without hair! So, the moral of the story is: Dare yourself to seek out beauty in new ways.
The Look: Latte Makeup
First coined by beauty influencer Rachel Rigler, the hashtag #lattemakeup has more than 443 million views and counting on TikTok. Why the fuss? This look is incredibly flattering on everyone.
It’s about creating a bronzed and glowy version of yourself, focusing solely on shades of brown and nudes.
The Hair Style: Bobs & Lobs
2023 has seen these timeless styles explode (just as the experts predicted). Said to give you a face lift with your hair (we’re in!) these statement cuts, works beautifully with soft waves, textured hair and dead straight locks too which is what makes them such a popular choice.
Obviously when Hailey Bieber recently chopped her long layers into a preppy, contoured bob, her millions of fans followed suit. Bobs and lobs are here to stay.
The Revival: The Rachel 2.0
The Rachel 2.0—aka shoulder-length layers inspired by Jenifer Anniston’s character Rachel Green in “Friends,” cut by the one-and-only Chris McMillan (@mrchrismcmillan). This 90s favourite style saw a comeback this year on the back of a “Friends Reunited” documentary.
Still one of the most versatile and flattering hairstyles out there.
The Grand Opening: Sephora
We can’t go without mentioning the explosive launch of Sephora on UK shores. The whole country was beyond excited about not one, but two, store openings that saw brands such as Lady Gaga’s Haus and Sephora’s own brand finally available in the UK.
We predict Sephora will be popping up all over the UK in 2024. Watch this space!
The Female Beauty Icon: Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson going makeup-free at red-carpet events made headlines all over the world. Shock horror is a celebrity without a scrap of makeup that makes the world stand still. So much noise surrounded this piece of news when Pam was first snapped at Paris Fashion Week and has since made several other appearances with the same bare look.
We loved Pam before, but we love her even more now.
The Male Beauty Icon: Harry Styles
Stealing the spotlight by debuting his recent buzz cut at a U2 concert in Las Vegas. Fans were left in utter shock when Harry Styles’s signature curly locks had been chopped off. Social media went into a frenzy with a with or without him camp. Now with his new edgy confident vibe, Styles has gone from boy to man overnight.
This is just the beginning of the new Harry, who is about to launch into the fragrance market.
