2023 beauty trends

A new year brings a whole host of fresh beauty trends to jazz up your look and a wave of authenticity and opportunity to experiment with different hair and makeup looks in 2023.

From draping blush to messy hair styles, be ahead of the game with the biggest beauty trends that are set to blow up this year. Here, we reveal all…

The Trending Hair Colour

With a staggering 8,000% uplift in Google searches, copper hair is set to reign in 2023 thanks to the likes of Kendall Jenner and Zendaya amongst other A-listers who have beautifully proven that the metallic-bronzy-burnt orangey-ish hue suits everyone.

With multiple options of copper colourways that can be tweaked according to your skin tone, this new dimension of auburn is set to bring a renaissance of red hair back into the salon and at-home colouring. A refreshing and welcome comeback that will shake up the usual colour choice for brunettes and blondes. We’re ready for it.

The Liner Overload

If there’s just one beauty trend to follow in 2023, make it this. Eyeliner is mega this season, with extended feline flicks, lashings of under-eye kohl, double-take lining, criss-cross liner, graphic liner, and everything in between.

Liner is dominating social with innovative ideas for flawless application (masking tape anyone?) and clever techniques that wow and ensure your liner stays put. The options are endless and striking. For more inspo, check out why eyeliner is making a resurgence.

The New ‘It’ Ingredient

Get set to hear the word Chebula a million times over in 2023. This new ‘it’ ingredient is a hard-working, multi-hyphenate, in other words, much like niacinamide dominated 2022 with its powerful best-loved skincare properties, Chebula is the new anti-ageing herb on the block that’s super rich in antioxidants, moisturises and brightens complexions while also correcting and protecting from photodamage. You read it here first!

The ‘Messy’ Haircut

The ongoing cost of living crisis and busy lifestyles have drastically changed the hair routines and styles of many women who want low-maintenance hairstyles that take very little time to style. Continuing into 2023, ‘messy haircut’ was searched 10,000 times in December alone. Choppy layers, shaggy cuts, and blunt bobs are just some of the messy cuts and styles that can work for every hair type and texture. It’s all about making styles look effortlessly put together, leaving pieces of hair loose around the front of the face and adding volume to the top of the head to create a tousled and windswept look. A saving grace for busy trendsetters.

The Statement Lip

One of the beauty trends that we always welcome in our New Year hit list, is a statement lip. A bold, strong pout never really goes out of fashion, but after being neglected with face masks for some time, we’re thrilled that 2023 sets to make the power lip return in a BIG way. Rocking a colourful lip is often all your need to upgrade your look. There’s no strict colour code this season, so whether you prefer your nudes to your pastels or your reds to your mauves, you’ll be on trend. And don’t forget your lip liner – it’s an absolute must to keep colour tight, long-lasting, and extra bold. If red is your go-to shade for head-turning lips, here’s our all-time favourite hues.

The Online Derm

Ever wondered how you can override the big bills but still get A-list skincare advice from a professional? Well, say hello to a new wave of online dermatologists that are 100 percent legit and customised to you but without taking up your precious time or money. A leading example of this is Klira, a custom prescription skincare platform created by Dr Emma Craythorne. After a comprehensive online diagnostic test, you’ll be assigned a consultant dermatology nurse who will prescribe your skin a Klira Special, which houses a blend of active ingredients at the optimal strength and in the optimal base for your skin type – a fresh blend will be delivered to your address every 28 days. And will also curate the perfect supporting skin routine – all for £49 a month. Consider this letterbox skincare that is prescriptive, convenient and saves you £££, travel, and precious time. An absolute game-changer!

The Blush Revival

The most unused and understated product in your makeup arsenal, until now. Cream blush, stick blush, powder blush, liquid blush, whatever texture takes your fancy, go big on colour and application. Think Barbiecore bubble-gum pinks or pretty muted corals that quite literally make your whole face pop. Accentuate cheekbones, add a fresh twist and healthy flush to a dull complexion in just one swipe. Tear up the blusher rulebook, channel your inner 70’s Farah Fawcett and experiment with different colours and draping blush techniques, anything goes.

The Resurgence Of Goth Glam

Ever since Jenna Ortega’s performance as Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series Wednesday brought enchanting goth back on the scene with her smudged black eye makeup and jet-black statement ponytails, goth glam has gone viral. Like mind-blowing viral. With a 9800% uplift in search for “Wednesday Addams”, we expect the popular look to be on the rise with every new series that reaches our screens. Fans desperate to know how to get the “Wednesday look”, are turning to TikTok hair and makeup inspo and fashion ideas. This obsession doesn’t look like it’s disappearing anytime soon. Think smudgy panda eyes, dark lipliners and lashings of mascara. Start sharpening those black kohl pencils now!

The Shiniest Of Skin

Glazed, glowy skin was all the rage in 2022 thanks to Mrs Biebs posting her super-shiny flawless skin all over Instagram. This year however, clean, overly shiny faces will still be trending but instead of highlighting areas, skin will be backlighted. In other words, shimmer, and shine all over the face and then going back to mattify certain areas.

It’s more of a just-come-out-of-the-steam-room look, beautifully flushed, healthy-looking skin that literally glows with radiance rather than the sculpted and contoured Kardashian girl of yesterday. We expect a boom of hybrid skincare and makeup multidimensional products to hit the shelves anytime soon.
