The Latest Interiors Trend: 24 Of The Chicest Pouffes To Upscale Your Home

Could this be the piece of furniture you never knew you needed? This compact, yet incredibly stylish little number is the finishing touch interior designers are snapping up. With its French origins and notes of sophistication, we’re ready to introduce the pouffe to our homes.
First off, let’s explain. A pouffe, sometimes spelt pouf, is a cushioned stool that multitasks as a seat, a foot stool and a side table. See, so very practical. The word pouffe is derived from the French word bouffer meaning to puff or blow out, explaining the more cushion-like appearance to these stools. They generally do not have legs, but if they do, they’re short or covered by fabric. Basically, once you’re on board with this trend, you won’t look back. Aside from looking beautiful, it’s always nice to have somewhere to put your feet while watching the telly.
For the last few years we’ve seen boho versions or even more hygge-style iterations made from jute, chunky knits or faded fabrics, similar to the French Connection one below. However, this season the look is almost more cool chintz meets glam or perhaps House of Hackney florals meets Soho Home velvets. You get the picture. The feel is opulent and we can’t get enough. Our favourite from the House of Hackney collection is the Hollyhocks Velvet Bottoman in bold, cheerful colours with gold-toned fringing, created by American artist Kerry Simmons.
Another go-to for hand-crafted excellence is Six The Residence. The shop has a whole section dedicated to mostly British made pouffes and ottomans, where you’ll find art deco-inspired pieces as well as ‘70s bouclé. If you’re after colour, Eva Sonaike is a must. The London-based designer, who recently collabed with Soho Home, specialises in contemporary African textiles in the most bold, undaunting colours. Without doubt, her pieces will make an exciting impact on your living room.
For something a little more personalised, you can create your own at Ceraudo from their selection of fabrics, trims and piping. Personally, the citron stripe gets our vote. What will you go for?
