There is no doubt that buttermilk has been the breakout shade this year. In fact, we’d go as far to say, why haven’t we been wearing it all this time? The quietly brilliant shade ticks so many boxes: wearable, fun, flattering, in just a few months it has become a much-loved cornerstone of our wardrobes.

We’ve been wearing it in wafty linens, vintage-inspird wedding guest looks and cocooning fuzzy knitwear all season, and now it is trickling down into our accessories too. From cute shoulder bags to lemon-kissed shoes and everything in between, scroll to shop our edit of the prettiest pale yellow accessories.

Is there anything that doesn’t look good in buttermilk yellow? We don’t think so. While a brown suede bag might promise go-with-everything charm, arm candy in sweet, buttery shades comes pretty close to matching its versatility. It’s brilliant paired against inky denim, soft with white Broderie Anglaise, and joyfully pops when married with richer, natural tones like khaki and chocolate brown.

The same can be said for shoes. We have our eye on plenty of pairs, from Adidas Originals’ SL 72 which now come in the most gorgeous limincillo hue, to & Other Stories’ chunky lemon loafer – how good with a mini dress and chunky brown socks? And for something a little more elegant, there is an array of sugar almond-like ballet flats on offer, from affordable H&M options to a little bit more of an investment from Aeyde. Both of which would look fine poking out beneath a blue barrel leg jean.

For finishing touches, we love Cos’s skinny buttery belt tucked between a tailored brown trouser and a crisp white shirt – perfect for the office. Or, if you’re heading to the coast or a festival this summer, Lack of Color’s wide-brim bucket hat has a more glam feel than the usual ’90s classic. Best paired with denim shorts, a bikini and a frozen margarita to match.

Butter leather loafers will make outfits pop in a way classic black or white can’t.

This buttery shade has the same appeal as an off-white or a golden metallic, meaning it pretty much goes with everything – the ultimate selling point of a great accessory.

Pastel hues bring a vintage feel to sunglasses, whether in a classic cat-eye or a Loewe-style bubble frame.
