London isn’t short of brunch spots serving up seriously great grub, but finding the best pancakes in London that are fluffy to the point of passing as pillows is no mean feat. Someone has to do it, so we’ve given ourselves the arduous task of sampling London’s best-rated in time for Shrove Tuesday – which happens to be today [Tuesday 17th February]. If you don’t fancy flipping your own at home, read on to reserve a table at one of our favourite pancake spots.

The best pancakes in London to try now

Cafe Ciel

Fluffy pancakes are already a favourite at Café Ciel. Served stacked and drizzled with chocolate hazelnut spread, topped with Piedmont hazelnuts and whipped cream, they lean fully into indulgence. The team has also teased new pancake flavours and specials launching next month, making this one to watch.

Nestled in the grounds of Raffles Hotel, Café Ciel is the dreamiest place for a posh pancake. I would also recommend trying out a champagne cocktail, served from the restaurants island bar.

Sunday in Brooklyn

Sunday in Brooklyn is the place to go for authentic American-style pancakes. The popular Williamsburg brunch spot opened up in 2021 and quickly became a firm favourite amongst Londoners too thanks to their signature cocktails and thick pancakes.

We’ve never seen a stack of pancakes looking so puffed and perfected in London. Lathered in hazelnut maple praline and brown butter, you can opt for a single, double or even triple serving of them. We’d recommend sharing these as they don’t skimp on the portions here.

Langan’s

Langan’s pancakes are legendary. The Mayfair restaurant is renowned for serving up one of the best breakfasts in the city, but it’s their pancakes that really keep guests coming back for more.

These small but fluffy pancakes are served with whipped cream and maple syrup. Truly indulgent but worth every bite.

Granger & Co.

Aussie group, Granger & Co. know a thing or two about breakfast. You’ll find them churning out some of the best pancakes in London, from green kimchi pancakes with a poached egg, shiso and mint salad to their freshly squeezed juices. No detail is missed.

But for sweet pancakes, you’ll find a bite of their ‘hotcakes’. Rich with creamy ricotta, their hotcakes are topped with banana and warm honeycomb butter. You won’t be able to resist adding these to your order anytime you go here.

I’ll never not go back to Granger & Co. — it’s reliable, consistent, and plain good.

Where The Pancakes Are

Can you really say you’ve tried the best pancakes in London if you haven’t brunched at Where The Pancakes Are?

They have a pancake for every occasion, whether you’re dairy-free, wheat-free or fancy the most extravagant of toppings – we’re looking at you, pulled beef pastrami. Go for their Banoffee marshmallow pancakes or, better yet, a savoury English breakfast stack. Plus, they’ve just launched a Rhubarb special for Shrove Tuesday with Kentish rhubarb, vanilla, and strawberry meringue with custard and marshmallow.

We can’t mention this restaurant joint without mentioning their Dutch pancakes either. Looking a little like a Yorkshire pud, you can go savoury with goat’s cheese and hot honey.

Kensington Crêperie

If you’re more of a crepe kind of person, we want to steer your attention towards Kensington Crêperie. Located on Exhibition Road, this humble cafe can be found serving up an array of sweet and savoury options.

Go savoury and have yours loaded with mushrooms, spinach, basil pesto, tomato and cheese in their Mediterranean special or go all out with their meatball, tomato sauce and cheese-loaded option. Or, simply keep things traditional with just sugar and lemon – you can’t beat it.
