When you work in the luxury industry for over a decade, you get used to hearing editors rave about the same few products. Granted, they’re normally a bit pricier – we are talking luxury, after all – which prompts the inevitable question: are they actually worth the money? This week, we’re talking about Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation – here’s this Editor’s honest review.

Why it’s so hyped

Head on over to MUA (makeup artist) TikTok, and it doesn’t take long before you find a video of a beauty expert waxing lyrical about Armani’s Luminous Silk foundation. In fact, if you’re looking for a full glam tutorial, it’s one of the most popular choices, if not the most popular.

Why? Recently reformulated, the cult-status beauty bag addition is famed for its cake-free, skin-like finish. Alikened to ‘velvet matte’, we’re talking a smooth, buildable medium coverage that is wedding- and red-carpet-worthy.

After wondering from afar for years, I’ve decided to take the plunge and try Luminous Silk as part of my wedding day glam.

How it applies

This foundation formula is smooth, silky, and blends like a dream. I start by applying it around the central points of my face (think cheeks: nose, forehead, chin, and neck) with a flatter foundation brush, to ensure an even dispersal of the product, before blending it in with a denser Kabuki-style brush to make sure it’s really worked into the skin. The buttery consistency means that it doesn’t take long to vanish into your skin, and layers really nicely with concealer and liquid bronzer.

The verdict

Let’s be real: we’re talking about a foundation that costs just under 50 quid. So, even if this is brilliant, I wouldn’t use it every day because, well, some of us have rent to pay.

However.

If you’re considering doing your own makeup for a special occasion – be it a wedding, birthday, or, you know, a red carpet premiere – then this is the first place I’d turn. The application is smooth, and the result looks beautiful. Plus, if you’re doing your own glam, then you’re already saving ££, so splurging on products you can use time and time again just makes sense (girl math).

If you’re considering doing your own makeup for a special occasion… then this is the first place I’d turn.
