“The Treatment That Finally Calmed My Rosacea”

If you’ve ever struggled with rosacea, you’ll know it’s not just “a bit of redness.” It’s the constant battle of flare-ups, flushing, visible capillaries and trying to find the perfect makeup routine that disguises it without making your skin worse. I have had rosacea for as long as I can remember.
Along the way I’ve explored many different treatments, including prescription creams, antibiotics, facials, lasers and various skincare regimes. While some approaches helped manage flare-ups, my skin has always been quite sensitive, so I’ve often relied on makeup to create the calm, even look I was hoping for.
So when a friend of mine, who runs the incredibly successful The Skin Investment Clinic, invited me to try a full laser plan specifically for rosacea, I was intrigued, and naturally jumped at the chance. What followed, however, genuinely changed my skin.
I’ve battled rosacea for over a decade and never thought a light treatment could make such a difference.

What Is BBL Treatment?
BBL stands for Broadband Light – an advanced form of intense pulsed light therapy that uses controlled light energy to rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level. It works by delivering photothermal energy deep into the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural regenerative processes. This energy targets and eliminates the tiny blood vessels responsible for redness, while also reducing unwanted melanin that causes age spots and pigmentation.
At The Skin Investment Clinic, BBL is commonly used to treat:
– Age spots and redness for smoother, healthier and more vibrant skin
– Pigmented lesions such as dyschromia and ephelides
– Vascular lesions including rosacea, telangiectasias and cherry angiomas
– Deeper pigmentation on darker skin types

For rosacea sufferers in particular, the treatment can be transformative, as it targets the broken capillaries that cause persistent facial redness often seen across the nose, forehead and cheeks.

My experience
My treatment plan consisted of a course of three sessions. From the moment I arrived, Holly at the clinic made me feel completely relaxed. Anyone who has had laser or light treatments before will know they can sound a bit intimidating, but the reality was far less dramatic.
Once I was settled, I put on the protective goggles, which were totally safe and completely non-intrusive, and the treatment began. The procedure lasted around 20 minutes, which is ideal if you’re doing it on a lunch break. The best part? There’s zero downtime. No redness, no peeling, no telling anyone that you’ve just had a cosmetic procedure. You literally could walk back to work, and no one would be any the wiser.
The treatment itself felt like a series of small, quick flashes of light tiny little shocks across the skin. It wasn’t painful at all, just slightly warm and surprising the first time. Each pulse of light works beneath the surface of the skin to heat and collapse the tiny vessels causing redness, allowing the body to naturally reabsorb them over time.
The science behind it is fascinating: BBL essentially “reprograms” ageing skin cells by stimulating collagen production and encouraging the skin to regenerate in a healthier way. Over time, this leads to clearer, stronger and more even skin.
After the 1st treatment
My skin looked less red straight away, but what surprised me most was how it felt — fuller, plumper and more hydrated. The overall tone was already more even. I noticed a difference almost immediately. I left thinking, okay… this might actually work.

After the 2nd treatment
This was when I really started to see the transformation. The redness wasn’t just reduced — my whole complexion looked smoother and clearer. The constant flushed tone across my cheeks had faded dramatically.

For the first time in years, I felt comfortable leaving the house with very minimal makeup. The photos here are me without makeup at all — something I honestly never thought I’d feel confident doing. I could almost get away without even wearing tinted moisturiser.

The final results after the 3rd treatment
The main rosacea areas that have bothered me for years – across my cheeks and nose – have pretty much gone. The persistent redness has calmed dramatically, and my skin tone is so much more even. I can now walk around with no makeup which, for someone who has relied on coverage for years, is a pretty big deal.
But what I didn’t expect was the anti-ageing effect. My skin looks brighter, smoother and noticeably more youthful. Fine lines have softened and the overall texture of my skin feels far healthier.

The verdict
If you suffer with rosacea, you’ll know how frustrating it can be trying endless treatments that promise results but never quite deliver. BBL has been the first treatment I’ve tried that has genuinely made a long-term difference to the redness in my skin — not just temporarily covering it up, but actually treating the cause. For me, it’s been a complete skin confidence reset. And for the first time in years, I’m reaching for less makeup — not more.

Writer’s Note: All photos in this article were taken without makeup to show the real results of the treatment — so please don’t judge too harshly! The good news is that since the BBL treatment, I genuinely feel comfortable going bare-faced, which is something I never thought I’d say.
