One of the biggest films to come out of Cannes this year was Club Kid, a comedy drama which was released to acclaim at the festival and is set to arrive on our screens in the near future. Starring Cara Delevingne and Diego Calva, it follows a washed-up party promoter whose life suddenly ends up heading in a different direction than he expected when he learns of a son that he didn’t know he had- and who will now have to take care of. Here’s everything you need to know about the festival favourite:

What is Club Kid about?

Club Kid centres around Peter (Jordan Firstman), a washed-up New York party promoter whose life revolves around drugs, hookups and the downtown club scene, and who lives mostly carefree. Years after his career peak and long after a one-night encounter he barely remembers, Peter has the head-spinning experience of discovering he has a young son named Arlo (newcomer Reggie Absolo). Suddenly forced to take responsibility for another, much younger person, Peter finds his very carefree lifestyle turned upside down. Now having to get to grips with the realities of parenting, with an increasingly chaotic social life, he begins questioning himself- having spent years avoiding growing up, can he turn his life around and step up to the plate?

Suddenly forced to take responsibility for another, much younger person, Peter finds his very carefree lifestyle turned upside down.

Critics have praised the film for its freshness and originality, despite the “growing up and raising a kid” genre being a crowded one. It’s also set against the vibrant backdrop of New York’s queer nightlife scene and explores themes of chosen family, identity and personal growth, blending raunchy humour with surprising sincerity. Cara Delevingne, the biggest name in the cast, meanwhile, plays Sophie, Peter’s smart and shrewd business partner who is put on something of a collision course with him as his life choices could upend everything they’ve built.

Is there a trailer, and what else do we know?

Club Kid has already become one of Cannes’ surprise success stories, being nominated for the Camera d’Or and the Queer Palm. The film was hotly bid for and eventually acquired by A24.

Alongside Firstman, Absolom and Delevingne, the ensemble cast includes Diego Calva, Miss Benny and Eldar Isgandarov.

When does it release?

Following its acclaimed Cannes debut in May, Club Kid is expected to receive a theatrical release from A24 later in 2026, though an exact date has yet to be announced- stay tuned for more info in the future.
