How To Make The Colour Drenching Trend Work In Your Home
What is colour drenching? We take a look at the colour trend taking over the interiors world.
Colour drenching is pretty much what it says on the tin. It’s all about drenching a room in the same colour or similar shades of the same colour. That can be on the ceiling, on the walls, picked up in the colour of a rug or a sofa, or worked into carpentry. The effect? Drama and design, but also something that can be emotionally impactful.
Colour has the ability to literally change your mood and this is effectively the interior world’s take on dopamine dressing. A blue room, for example, can release calming hormones, whilst yellow can encourage enthusiastic thoughts, logic and focus – ideal, then, for a home study.

Colour Drenching With Green
From forest-hued shaker kitchens to an avocado bathroom revival (yes, really), green is very much the colour of the moment. The beauty of green is that it works in just about every room in the house – dark and cosy in a living room, moody in a dining area, but somehow fresh and nature-like in a bathroom or bedroom set-up.

Or, worked over wood panelling which gives a sense of depth and drama. Try the look for yourself with Farrow & Ball’s Beverly green paint on bookshelves or enclaves and then curate the levels with objects, books and art in similar shades for a monochromatic look.

All Blue Rooms
Lucy William’s enviable home has gained lots of traction on the ‘gram this year, mainly due to her incredible blue living room. The ceiling, walls, wood-panelled areas and curtains are all drenched in a matched cool blue, that we’re sure is a nod to her love of travel and sparkling, warm Mediterranean seas.
Get the look at home with a similar shade – we love Farrow & Balls’ Stone Blue – and pepper the rest of the room with cool blue accessories and statement pieces. There’s also something quite country-like and comforting about a blue room, so lean into the cottagecore trend with layers of frills, stripes, wiggle details and traditional prints.

Colour Drenching With Pink
Pink interiors have become somewhat of a modern classic. They are statements, but feel homely and cocooning at the same time. It’s even said that pink walls can emotionally calm us. Either way, we love a pink moment and say go all out by drenching everything from a velvet sofa to a beautiful high ceiling, walls to glassware.

Statement Yellow Rooms
Turn your living room into a sunny state with joyful, drenched yellow. Take notes from this Drake Anderson study with daybed space and cocoon the walls in a jewel-toned yellow. For a less expensive and easier update, add pops of limoncello or mustard with pleated lampshades from Alice Palmer, quirky vases from Glassette and Matilda Goad’s excellently peppy tufted yellow designer rug.
