18 Cosy London Fireplaces To Keep You Warm This Winter

It’s cold, it’s raining, it’s miserable… It’s the perfect time of year to curl up in front of a roaring fire. But real, working, open fireplaces are few and far between in London. So, when we want to warm the cockles, the only way is to leave the house and head to one of London’s best pubs, restaurants or hotels to curl up fireside, drink mulled wine, and eat like we’re getting ready for hibernation.
From curling up with a Sunday roast at a gastropub to fireside cocktails at a hotel bar, we’ve rounded up our favourite London fireplaces to keep you warm, fed and watered all winter long.
Luca
Sure, this fireplace may be outdoors, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the cosiest spots we’ve discovered of late. Luca’s secret garden terrace is foliage-filled, lit by candlelight, sheltered by a retractable cover, and, most importantly, heated by a stunning open fire.
Book a table here as the days get longer and colder, and expect to tuck into British seasonal ingredients served through an Italian lens. Think Burrata with orchard fruits; crudo of Cornish bream with winter citrus and agrodolce; and Hereford beef ribeye with Jerusalem artichoke, pickled walnut, and confit garlic.

The Pelican

The Pelican is one of London’s best gastropubs, a Notting Hill stunner that combines homely pub feels with truly top-tier food. Strongly conscious of sustainability and the importance of local produce and suppliers, the menu is filled with gems like whole roasted brill, ribeye steak and braised lamb with anchovy. It also runs regular events from life drawing classes to supper clubs.

The Franklin Bar

Tucked inside The Franklin in Knightsbridge, The Franklin Bar is a luxurious little hideaway made for winter evenings. Its grand fireplace anchors the room with velvet seating and Art Deco touches that feel straight out of a 1920s cocktail party. It’s intimate without being stuffy, a place where you can settle in with a perfectly made martini or a glass of champagne and take a break from the cold. Whether you’re stopping in for a nightcap or marking a special occasion, it’s a beautifully elegant spot to warm up in style.

The Drawing Room at Flemings Mayfair

For something a little more serene, The Drawing Room at Flemings Mayfair offers a quiet, elegant escape with its gently glowing fireplace and refined setting. Throughout the season — from 26 November to 21 December 2025, Tuesday through Saturday — it becomes an idyllic backdrop for afternoon tea, complete with seasonal touches and the kind of polished service that makes lingering feel encouraged. It’s a classic Mayfair winter moment: warm, intimate and just festive enough without tipping into novelty.

The Lock & The Tyne by Adam Handling

Technically just outside London, but close enough, and absolutely worth the trip. Adam Handling’s The Loch & The Tyne is a gastropub with heart, soul and a proper fireplace to anchor the room. It’s one of those places where everything feels intentional: the produce, the sustainability ethos, the warm service, the deep leather armchairs you immediately sink into. The fire makes the dining room feel like a countryside escape, especially paired with Handling’s elevated pub dishes — think perfect Scotch eggs, beautiful local veg, and rich, comforting plates that make a winter visit feel essential.

Windsor Castle

Tucked between Notting Hill and Kensington, The Windsor Castle feels like a pub from another century — all crooked doorways, wood-panelled nooks and one of the most charming fireplaces in West London. It’s the kind of place where you come for a quiet pint and end up staying three hours without meaning to. In winter, the fire is almost always lit, throwing a soft glow over the low beams and mismatched furniture. The menu leans classic pub comfort: think fish and chips, pies, Sunday roasts and all the usual suspects done properly. If your ideal cold-weather evening is something cosy, unfussy and unmistakably British, this is where you’ll find it.

The Stafford, elegantly squirrelled away just off Green Park, unfolds into a labyrinth of drawing rooms and dining rooms as you make your way through the hotel to get from St James’ Place to St James’ Street and avoid the cold.
But as you go, make sure to stop to warm your hands on the open fires. There are two located at opposite ends of the drawing room, but we recommend popping into The Game Bird’s lounge. Here you can indulge in Afternoon Tea or a quick coffee break, complete with a cosy fireplace to warm you up in the cold winter months, and a mulled wine in hand for good measure.
