This Viral Styling Hack Looks A Million Bucks, But Costs £0

Cummerbunds and scarf belts might not have been on your bingo card as a 2026 womenswear fashion trend, but here we are. Traditionally relegated to the menswear department, this season, the unsuspecting item has become something of an It-piece. Understandably, you might be a bit reticent to invest in a brand new cummerbund, unsure of its shelf life, so when one content creator shared how to get the look for free, we were intrigued.
The trend
The viral styling hack
Content creator @megsterofficial shared a casual video walking through town wearing a semi-sheer aubergine-toned shirt paired with mid-blue jeans. The statement detail? Her eye-catching cummerbund-esque belt wrapped around the waist and secured in place with an ornate pin. The secret? It’s not actually a cummerbund at all, it’s a repurposed tie.
Megan explains how to get the look. “All you need is a tie, silk of course, and a little brooch. Simply wrap the tie around yourself… fasten your tie exactly right where you want it,” and that’s it.
The video has since amassed over 21k likes, with followers taking to the comment section to remark on the clever hack, writing: “Genius 👏” and “I loveee❤️”
Rather than promoting shopping to keep up with the ever-changing trend cycle, I love this simple hack which promotes a more sustainable (and equally fashion-forward) approach.

Shop the look
While you can really use any tie to get this look, we particularly like combining a pattern-free style to draw the eye to the statement brooch or pin.
