Emma Thompson And Ruth Wilson Lead A New Thriller From The Creator Of Slow Horses

Love a good thriller series? Fan of MI5 drama Slow Horses? Then you’ll want to pay attention to Apple TV+’s new series Down Cemetery Road, which is written by Slow Horses writer Mick Herron, and set to arrive on our screens next year. Telling the story of a missing persons investigation in Oxford, it’ll star Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson in the lead roles.
Everything we know so far
Down Cemetery Road is, like Slow Horses, based on a book of the same name, and was Mick Herron’s debut as an author back in 2003. It’s set in Oxford, in a suburb where everything suddenly turns upside down: a house explodes out of nowhere, while a young girl disappears in the aftermath without a trace. Amongst the confusion and anxiety, neighbour Sarah Tucker (played by The Woman in the Wall star Wilson) starts to become obsessed with the case and trying to find the missing girl. So much so that she decides to enlist the help and expertise of a private investigator, Zoë Boehm, played by Good Luck To You, Leo Grande’s Emma Thompson.
Together, both women begin to delve deeper into the puzzling and heartbreaking case, but soon find that things are much more complicated than they could have ever imagined. A grand and complex conspiracy seems to be afoot, as it’s found that people who were thought to be long dead are actually still alive, while “the living are fast joining the dead.” So- certainly a dramatic high stakes plot. There’s not a huge amount else story wise about the series yet, but the synopsis suggests that Wilson’s character Sarah is a keen amateur sleuth who becomes somewhat obsessive, while Thompson’s character Zoë is struggling in her job as a PI, despite her being hired for the case.
Down Cemetery Road has all the hallmarks of Mick Herron’s funny and acerbic writing, and I’m delighted we will be bringing it to life for Apple TV+ with such a stellar cast.”
