A Good Person Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh certainly had a big year in 2022: she was the lead in both Don’t Worry Darling and The Wonder, was confirmed to be appearing in upcoming blockbusters Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two later this year, and even lent her voice to Puss In Boots. So you won’t be surprised to hear there’ll be another Florence Pugh film just around the corner: she’ll be appearing in the comedy-drama film A Good Person, written and directed by Zach Braff.

The new Florence Pugh film sees the actress play as Allison, a young woman with a happy life: she has a loving fiancé, a stable career, and a supportive and caring family. However, a horrible accident with tragic consequences leaves her reeling and she falls into grief and addiction. She finds herself in the years following forming a closer friendship with her would-be father-in-law Daniel, played by Morgan Freeman.

Spurred on by Daniel’s advice and counsel, Allison begins piecing her life back together and trying to move on from the dark place she’s been stuck in.

The first trailer for the film was released recently, opening with Morgan Freeman’s narration as Daniel over the idyllic life of Allison before the accident- before showing a glimpse of the car crash that upended her life.

We see Allison taking pills to cope with her trauma, and looking broken by the experience. She bumps into Daniel at a therapy meeting, and initially wants to leave, but he convinces her to stay, and she smiles again. The two bond over their shared grief, with Daniel having lost his wife, and Allison advises him to raise his granddaughter.

Having lost two family members and two friends in the last five years, director Braff set out to express his grief and emotions in a film, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I was just overcome with not only experiencing grief myself, but experiencing how the people closest to the grief were able to stand back up after the tragedy… …and so that’s what I really wanted to write about.”

A Good Person will be released on 24th March in cinemas for a brief run, before coming to streaming on a currently unannounced platform. The cast will also include Molly Shannon, Celeste O’Connor, Zoe Lister-Jones and Chinaza Uche.
