Headscarves Are Having A Fashion Girl Moment – Here Are 11 Ways To Wear Them
Everyone knows the fast-track ticket to cool-girl style is all in the accessories. And one simple finishing touch has been spotted on just about every fashion influencer worth their salt this season, the headscarf.
From Toteme’s monochromatic stripes to a ’90s paisley print bandana, pretty florals courtesy of Gucci to cool blue holiday-worthy prints from Stories, they are everywhere and pitched at a slew of price points, from under a tenner to £1k+ investments – we’re looking at you Hérmes.
Plus, despite the name, the humble headscarf works hard, with the ability to be styled in myriad ways. From ’70s and boho on the head to Queen-inspired around the neck, attached to a bag or TikTok’s fully divisive over-a-cap trend, here are 11 ways to style yours, plus some of our favourite picks.
Look 1 – As A Neckerchief
Classic and always chic, you can’t go wrong with a scarf tied at the neck to add some finishing polish to your look. A sunshine yellow silk number paired with earthy browns, scarlet red with denim or pretty pastels with a classic shirt – we love them all.
Look 2 – Over A Cap
Granted, not a look for everyone but a trend that’s doing the rounds on Insta and TikTok is the grandma-style silk scarf tied over a cool cap. Is it wrong that we kind of like it?
Look 3 – Keep It Traditional(ish)
Alexa can always pull off grandma chic and this summer she lent fully into the Queen’s favourite style hack with a traditional scarf over the head. Great for bad hair days and blustery boat trips.
Look 4 – Bandana Style
Continuing fashion’s love affair with all things late ’90s / early noughties, the bandana is having a bit of a renaissance moment. Pair with baby tees, mini skirts and kitten heels to live out all your younger self’s girlband fantasies.
Look 5 – On The Beach
Protect your hair and up your beach look with a silky, oversized silk scarf tied around the head. Giant statement sunnies are obligatory.
Look 6 – Tied In The Hair
We love a cute hair accessory to add finesse to a look and this nonchalantly tied silk headscarf adds a point of interest to an otherwise simple look.
Look 7 – ’70s Boho
Thanks to Chloé’s major boho revival this season, boho styling is everywhere. We love this 1970s-inspired look paired with everything from denim flares to pretty blouses and floaty, flowing dresses.
Look 8 – Smart In The City
A headscarf needn’t be reserved for beach holidays, choose a monochrome print and pair it with sharp tailoring and a silky slip skirt.
Look 9 – On A Bag
Your accessories deserve their own accessories, so take a colour-pop silk scarf and tie it to your favourite bag for an eclectic, entirely unique look.
Look 10 – As A Top
Get more wear out of a silk scarf by styling it as a cute handkerchief top. Perfect for balmy late-summer nights paired with wide-leg linen trousers and slides.
Look 11 – Prairie Style
Some of our favourite looks from recent Copenhagen Fashion Week were all down to the accessories and, here, Mafalda Patricio perfects the prairie girl look with this sweet headscarf and pretty white blouse – very demure.
