How To Make Your Home Feel More Luxe, According To An Interiors It-Girl

5th July 2023 | By Natasha Harding

When you move into a new place, one of the first things you want to do is make it your own. And Instagram serves as a primary source for on-trend design inspiration.

As someone who’s just moved house, my Instagram feed now resembles a mood board of aspirational interiors covering everything from marshmallow-like sofas to statement mirrors – thanks, algorithm. However, unlike the Instagram elite, my abode will be approached with more moderate time and budget allowances.

So I thought it an opportune time to chat with someone in the know about simple changes can make to transform your place into a luxurious oasis.

Introducing, Riley Uggla – certified interiors It-girl, London resident, and founder of the new online interiors and lifestyle platform The Condo.

Whether you’ve also recently upped sticks or are considering giving your existing home a little revamp, there’s something for everyone in her top tips.

1. Declutter And Organise

It’s obvious but true: a clutter-free space instantly feels more luxurious. Clear out unnecessary items and find proper storage solutions for the things you need to keep.

2. Use Mood Lighting

A good lamp can transform the atmosphere of a room. Invest in light fixtures, add dimmers for adjustable lighting, and consider using soft LED bulbs to create a warm and inviting ambience.

3. Play With Metal Accents

Incorporating hardware, like brass or nickel, throughout your space (be it chrome a picture frame, or a brushed steel table leg) can instantly give your home a touch of luxury.

4. Embrace Texture

Choose plush throws, pillows, curtains, or bedding to create a more lavish feel in your home. Fabrics/textiles go such a long way in bringing a space together.

5. Incorporate Art

Select a few art pieces (paintings, prints, or sculptures) that resonate with your style. Not only do these add visual interest within a space, they instantly elevate the aesthetic of your home.

6. Focus On The Bedroom

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary of comfort. Put your money into a quality mattress, soft bedding, and thick pillows. Try adding a cosy rug and soft lighting to complete the calm atmosphere.

7. Upgrade Bathroom Accessories

You can transform a bathroom by adding tasteful accessories such as fluffy towels, scented candles, and elegant soap dispensers.

8. Bring Greenery Inside

Nothing brings life to a space like fresh flowers and greenery. Place bouquets of flowers in vases throughout your home, or add potted plants throughout.

9. Get Creative

Consider installing architectural details that complement the style of your home to give a more refined look.

10. Take Your Time

While you might be eager to start decorating (or redecorating), remember it’s not a race. Creating a truly personalised and luxe space takes time.
